Do you think sugarcoating it helps them? Not that he should throw a guy under the bus publicly, but thats about as much spin as you can get right there. Although he did say somethings in earlier articles that indicated he wasn't happy with his performance.
Sugarcoating it might not help, but I can't see where the reverse is going to be productive, either. Miles knows JL didn't perform well. The fans know it. JL knows it. Why come out and publicly assassinate the kid? He's been thrown to the wolves enough already. I prefer the way Miles handles such things--privately. You'll notice that Malveto was replaced without humiliating those guys. I have a feeling a similar thing may await Crowton at this season's end. But it won't seem like a dismissal.
Sure it is. But I'm okay with it. JL was asked to be something he wasn't way too soon, and it probably ruined his college career. There's no need to dig the knife in further and wiggle it around.
Berating him publicly and focusing on his very poor play is wrong and a coach shouldn't do that to his players. I agree with that sentiment 100%. But on the other hand, CLM shouldn't piss in our ears and tell us it's raining. I saw the game like everyone else and there's not a soul who saw that who can say Lee's performance was anything other than abysmal. However, Miles should outright lie about it. We're not stupid and Lee knows how badly he played. The only positive I saw is that he didn't turn the ball over. Say that. Or say nothing at all about Lee's play. But don't lie and say it was good. That's insulting. Use the regular CLMims "We have a young quarterback who's working hard in practice and developing every day" "Our players competed very hard tonight" "I'm proud of the character of this football team" "We faced a very tough 3-7 opponent, they're much better than their record indicated" Don't say a player or unit played well when they didn't.
I remember Bill Arnsparger. He had a pretty good field goal kicker, but the kicker missed an important one in a game and he trotted back to explain the miss to his coach. Arnsparger brusquely waved him away and told him to go find a spot on the bench all on national TV. That kicker was never the same after that. His percentage went down and down as his head coach treated him worse and worse. Arnsparger was a pro coach and kickers don't get any respect in the NFL. It was one of the things that made Arnsparger a great pro coach and a poor college coach. He couldn't recruit and he didn't know how to treat amateur athletes. He personally ruined that kid's career.
Ronnie Lewis ? If thats him we had a math teacher in common. I used to stand in line with him waiting to see her in her office.
So is calling obviously hurt players a 'little nicked up' and calling certain teams 'quality opponents'. But I'm ok with all of CLM's lies (or coachspeak, if you want to be nice about it)...mainly because he does it all the time when being interviewed publicly. If it were a one-off thing, it would be one thing, but it's a habit of the man's to say one thing outloud and probably think something else entirely in his head. Speaking of which, that would make a fun thread. Post a CLM quote and explain what he was thinking at the time.
