No, not really, I was trying to show the college gravitational pull. Right now there are 13 undefeated teams, which I have had explained to me, is unusually high. Last year at this time there was 9, with 5 staying unbeaten through the regular season. Somebody is coming back, soon.
Agreed. The top 3 teams in the West all control their own destiny. Even with one loss, Bama still has AU and LSU on their schedule. Win out, and they go to ATL. Same with us.
I actually don't think Bama will get better from here on out. I think you guys peaked really early in the season. You didn't have that far to go to peak, and by the time you rolled into Columbia, it seems you were running on fumes. That's not to say I anticipate a bad season for you, but I would, of course, like to see you lose in Baton Rouge.
I agree, but I don't see any drop-off ahead either . . . and they are still the most effective team in the SEC in most phases of the game. They are going to be a handful and I'm damn glad we have them at our place.
Oh, I know you would like that, but of course that is the rub. If we are on fumes, after 5 games, it wouldn't make sense. It's just hard to emotionally duplicate the same high effort each week. Effort in most cases, will trump talent, if the gap is marginal, like the SEC. The Tennessee game and Florida game for you, produced two different dramatic results. Same talent. Bama is loaded, the west, round robin is about to begin. I think the BR trip will settle a lot, as it has, these past few years.
But...are you on fumes after a furious, intense run the past 2 seasons? Saban's intensity might be both a strength and a weakness. It's hard to maintain oneself at a break-neck pace over the long haul.
Given there are two-year-old babies out there who have never seen Bama or Florida lose a conference game (except to each other), the SC win and the LSU win screamed of the return to parity in the SEC. The last half of the season should be a roller coaster ride for you guys (and Gals)!!... and that's what college football should be. This is one of those years that may produce a group of very good teams across the country, but no one great team. The ball is gonna bounce favorably for two of them... and the rest will ponder "What could have been." So hold on to your hats.... or in the case of LSU... "Hold On to your Hat!"
History says every year we are going to be at our best and then there are games, we gonna stink up the place. I guess you can have some attrition from a NC run, especially, if a lot of players are returning. Saban's intensity and how hard the kids are listening, so far, so good.
