jordan jefferson will never be able to get rid of the ball quickly enough. he overthinks it every time. hes not a great runner either. thats why les shut it down altogether. he knew the only way he was losing is if JJ threw a pick 6 late. he wasnt letting that happen. sucks because we needed this game to begin developing an identity beyond les' 2 tight end formation which we saw 80% of the time. but you gotta do what you gotta do. we are back to square one unfortunately.
Like Ive said '08 & '09 all over again! Who's Next? - Nobody. - We need a sleeper! Do you know how bad I want to turn on college football final Sunday Morning and hear the things that I heard about Denard Robinson, but his named replaced with Jefferson or Lee Just to hear " And what about this story down in the bayou's of baton rouge, .........................."
its clicked. we just cant unclick it. he seldom has a feel for the game even when his passing efficiency is however great. your eyes tell the better story i believe. i think he will have times he will be ok. he certainly wont look worse than this past week i dont believe. we just need to develop some sort of vertical passing game before we get into the big boys of the schedule or its going to be ugly on offense most of the season. and the d will eventually wear down as the season progresses. especially mentally when they know they are getting no help on the other side of the ball. thats when it often gets ugly. we have to develop on offense-- and somewhat quickly.
We did play consistant ugly football last season. Ugly football that kept us in every game, and with in fair possibility of going un-beaten last year had a few plays and balls bounced differently. Can we squeak by long enough to beat a tired Bama team at home this season and win the SEC West?
Jefferson would likely improve considerably if Les did one thing which ain't gonna happen: put Crowton's godd**n spread option out of its misery. I'm talking Ole Yeller style. Jefferson is not built physically to run the option effectively. He's clearly uncomfortable with zone read plays. So simplify the number of sets he has to run. Mainly I-formation with some spread elements thrown in to get the ball to Shepard in space. And yes, we have no main fullback, but at this rate we'll have no main QB, either. So pick your poison. For a brief glorious moment that was the 4th quarter, it seemed like Les had that figured out. As for hesitation and mistakes, a lot of that goes to the coaches. They had this kid scared to death of throwing picks last year. This is not a sport that you play scared and win at. And he's not going to learn unless he's allowed to make those mistakes. It's a big part of the reason IMO that we have two inconsistent, ho-hum QBs after 2 full years of development instead of 2 effective ones.
I don't know if that was JJ off the leash, he looked more like JJ from Good Times. And he wasn't dynOmite. Tirk pointed out something that is lost alot with this guy. He isn't a good runner. I really think that is why he started, because they assumed because of his speed, and long legs that he would be a mobile threat, and would fit better in Crowton's offensive scheme than Lee would. But, unfortunately, as Tirk pointed out, he is a terrible scrambling quarterback. I think enough time has been invested in Jefferson. If he hasn't gotten it by now, i am afraid he won't. I have to believe that the bench has been an eye opener for Jarrett Lee. He has something to prove. I would make it an open competition in the Mississippi State game, and give the starting role to the guy who plays better.
I think JJ lets the game jitters cloud his thinking. You can have the game plan down pat but if the butterflies get between your ears, then you have to be lead. He waits for the play to come in, remembers his primary responsibility but if any thinking is required on his feet like finding his second and third reads, he's lost. You'd think by now he could control that. And Miles thinks too highly of his running skills.
