Just beating islstl to the punch. But seriously, Phillips looked like Spurrier out there. The meltdown in Dallas begins, at least media-wise. He wasn't a very good puppet.
I never understood how or why he got the gig in Dallas. One reason is that he didn't last as a head coach in Denver.
A puppet for Jerry Jones is why. Jerry Jones won't allow a coach with a strong personality (e.g., Parcells) to succeed without meddling in his affairs (i.e., forcing Owens upon him). Jones is his own worst enemy. Really dysfunctional situation.
Wade Phillips (7th Head Coach in Cowboy history) was DC of the Saints, 1981–1985. The way he got that job was that he served for his dad, Bum, who was the Saints head coach from 1981-1985. The record of the Bum/Wade Phillips-led Saints was this: 1981 - 4-12 1982 - 4-5 (NFL players strike) 1983 - 8-8 1984 - 7-9 1985 - 5-11
I may be wrong, but I believe he has proved to be a fairly solid defensive coordinator, at least as of the last few seasons (San Diego). Hahah... I just saw this on Wikipedia Not too objective, eh? ROFL
CP, too funny. Wade Allen Phillips (born June 21, 1947 in Orange, Texas) is the worst head coach in the history of the National Football League's Dallas Cowboys. He is also a former head coach of the New Orleans Saints, where his record was 1–3, the Denver Broncos, where his record was 16–17, the Buffalo Bills, where he was 29-21 and led the Bills to the playoffs in two of three seasons, and the Atlanta Falcons where he posted a 2-1 mark. His career winning percentage as a head coach is .596. He has never won a playoff game as a head coach and he never will.
 - usually, Wikipedia is pretty good at keeping that stuff in check, so that must have been done pretty recently. That's awesome. Was it Clair?
I just added this to the wikipedia heading. Check it out before it changes. "The Dallas Cowboys are now up for consideration as the worst run franchise in all of major American sports. Jerry Jones runs a very dysfunctional system of hiring puppet coaches and bestowing upon them his wisdom of which players they must work with (i.e., Owens forced upon Parcells) and also diagnosing when key players are healthy enough to play (see Romo's pinky injury debacle) as well as when players should be playing even while hurt (see Marion Barber debacle). T.O. has officially petitioned the NFL to change his name to Team Obliterater."
