If you can't see why punting is an important aspect of the game in a defensive, low scoring game, then I give up. - I'll say this one last time. It is simply a pet peeve of mine that we can't even TRY to pin a team deep...aim for the coffin corner. FWIW, it isn't just LSU. It's a lost art in ALL of football, not just college. I know we've only had one TB all year on punts, but it happened to coincide with the longest punt of the year. That's just stupid, IMO. Why crush it when you can pin them deep with an average kick? But there have been SEVERAL sub 30 yd punts...NONE of which were downed inside the 20. Inconsistant. You, Red, nobody can discount the inconsistancy. That's all I'm saying. - As far as the net ranking...it's average...and the punt coverage play has been VERY good all season. In fact, special teams as a whole has been great this year...save for punting.
Stop telling us what we can doubt. I doubt LSU has any more "inconsistency" in their punts than most teams. You say the averages hide LSU problems, I say every punter is "inconsistent". They hit long and short. They sometimes shank one. Nobody just nails 40-yarders each and every punt. We average pretty good. Thats what everybody strives for.

FWIW, I haven't disagreed with your point yet. You're right...when it's all averaged out, LSU's punting net is...average. I see that. I haven't yet said that LSU's punting sucks. I have simply stated that the inconsistancy is evident. - Averages usually also include some low numbers due to punting from the 40 and trying to keep it from going in the endzone. Again, my thing is the 20 yarders that happen when we're punting from midfield or in our territory. That has happened more than a few times this year...including this past game. You don't want that to happen at a critical point in the game against some team that knows how to make you pay.
Alrighty. 19 yard punts from your own territory are OK. Thanks for the lesson, old man. You guys act like it's a sin to talk about anything unless it's a positive. I'm happy with the season so far...and I think the team is yet to peak. I predicted 9-3 or 10-2. Right now, I'm seeing 10-2 or 11-1. I like our chances in ANY postseason game...whether it be the SECCG, or whatever bowl we go to. That said, I can still see...and discuss...what I perceive to be problems. If you don't wanna discuss it...don't. At least Cristof11 and Red bring something to the table. And I don't care where LSU ranks in the SEC, or how they stack up against Bama in this category. They are inconsistant, (Helton in particular), and there are several really poor punts with no pressure being applied.
