Though coaches get a lot more press, the UT debacle, as well as our own recently, and a mess I doubt is on any of your radar, at East Carolina, illustrates just how critical a strong, or at least competent AD is to these big time programs.
Interesting. OSU is (arguably) as good a job as UT, it's Gundy's alma mater, and T. Boone can match any dollar amount. I wonder what would make Gundy want to leave what he has to take over a team that just went 0-8 in the SEC.
Good question. Doesn’t sound legit, though I can believe these god’s of ours operate similar to the Greek gods - scandalous and hot headed.
Tenn has really screwed man in past. For a "Duke" coach to say no is awful. I would remove board members for him fire trustees, fire AD, fire president, whatever he wants.
Gundy was on their short list prior to the Jones hire, maybe even before that. Arkansas was after him as well. Fans here are pretty fed up with him and he is taking heat and losing ground with every loss to OU. You are right about TBP but I don't think Mike Holder (the A/D) likes him very much, all stems from that ridiculous contract they gave Travis Ford a while back and then tried to lowball Gundy in the same year. I don't think it has much traction yet but there is definitely smoke
Now hearing the vols have offered to double his salary, put him close to 8 mil. My thoughts, I like Gundy but he isn't an 8 mil coach at this point. That check comes with lofty expectations that best materialize very early. I don't know if any coach could get it done quickly at that place. What a shit show this has become
Duke is a better job than you might think. Smarter guys, fewer discipline problems, low expectations. Not a bad gig at all.
