Chuckie is a candidate in every programs dreams that needs a coach. Phil or Tommy would have been an instant spark for them.
If he , Buck Jones ,is smart he will hit the ground running looking for a defense . His D backfield is nothing . 4 good players one great on the defense and the Vols will be making bama worry just a little bit . He has a QB and the Vols can score . Reminds me of LSU as we got Saban , we only needed 4 or 5 players , then saban took over a 20- 4 team and found his 3 or 4 players .Mike Shula his last two years at bama went 10- 2 , that was not good enough for the bama fans . So the Vols maybe closer than we would like to think . And we know they are hungry . I have one bet on how long he will last , I say 3 years and if they are not back on top the top 2 teams he is gone . My grandsons I know they are hungry for the Vols to win . I myself would like to see LSU vsd TYhe Vols in the CESCG again . Oh one more thing for the Bama fan, GEAUX ND !!!!
You can't judge what happened with Tennessee's defense this year and use it as a guide to what will happen next year. They are returning quite a few of their starters which is going to give whomever comes in a bit of a leg up. The thing to keep in mind is in 2011 they were running a 4-3, switch DC's and went to a 3-4 in 2012, and now—assuming they stick with what Jancek ran in Cincy—they'll be switching schemes again going with a nickel based defense. You mention their secondary and you should be familiar with the two coaches they have there: Willie Martinez and Tommy Thigpen. Neither of those two secondary coaches are going to create worry from offensive coordinators who have been around the SEC. It's left to be seen whether UT has a QB or not. Justin Worley has looked awful when he's taken snaps for the Vols. It's shouldn't be that difficult a transition since they are remaining in a pro-style attack. However, going no-huddle and hurry-up is likely going to lead to quite a few mistakes next season. A high number of penalties per game doesn't necessarily mean a team won't be successful. But, as we saw with Florida, it's all about the timing of when that penalty is called. Jones does inherit a situation a lot better than the one Dooley did when he was hired. No doubt in my mind there. He's got depth and experience to work with. I'm not sure what point you're trying to make with Shula.
It all depends on what kind of player they plug into the "rover" position along with how well their safeties do against the run. UofSC used something pretty similar under Ellis Johnson and did well against the run.
