He has only been a WR coach this year.

RBs and recruiting coordinator mostly at his other jobs. He also worked with special teams at Ole Miss.

I dont see this hire as job security for Crowton. I think he's still on the way out. I doubt Les is willing to wager his future at LSU on Crowton improving drastically over the off season. If CLM keeps GC and has a mediocre season next year, I dont think a sacrificial lamb will save his butt.

Bhelm predicted this a while back in the recruiting forum. Some folks on his thread had some not-so-impressive things to say about Frank Wilson.

Maybe, LSU needs to replace Porter quickly in order to keep our commits secure. Crowton could still be gone after the bowl game, and the new OC would be able to hire the rest of the staff. Perhaps, Wilson is well thought of by a lot of the coaches in the SEC and would be acceptable to any new OC.

This could also mean that Alleva and Miles have several people in mind and have their opinion as input as well...but I doubt it, unless it's secretly been in the works for a long time.

:geaux: I read these as well. Are there some things about Wilson that could possibly come back and bite LSU? We don't need to bring in someone who's gonna land LSU's azz in a crack down the road. Being as close to Orgeron as Wilson is, and Ogre's rep., I'd make sure everything about Wilson was scrubbed and looked in to before he's brought in. I don't think anyone is doubting his coaching and recruiting abilities, he appearantly excels in those two areas. Guess it's just the way he goes about his business and some of his "tactics" that some folks are questioning from what I've read. Thoughts? :LSU231:

True. Dandy Don wrote this morning that Crowton is staying at least 1 more year. He has 2 years left on his contract. If that is the case, there goes next year.

There are going to be a lot of coaching hires in December and January. Some of the better talent is going to be snapped up quickly and leave fewer options for those who wait until after the January bowls. Those being hired for recruiting skills are needed to help secure this year's class and help fill the last few holes.

I think Les needs to replace Porter quickly. I wouldn't be surprised if Studrawa was also replaced quickly if a top OL coach becomes available. If a new OC is in the picture, it may take more time. Those guys have top agents that will be working all of the major openings to pitch their guys.
