I still place the blame on the coaches. We line up in 1 or 2 WR sets and don't utilize the RB or TE in the passing game. Advantage defense. Harris can either throw deep or thread the needle in double coverage. Harris has earned a lot of the criticism he's getting but his main hindrance is the head coach, imho. But yeah, that last throw was terrible.
This can be said about all of the QBs we seen since '08. AJ, JL, JJ, BH, RS, etc. We see glimpses of greatness a game here, a half there, a drive to win the game there... but the overall product always stays the same. Mediocrity at best. That is why I will no longer get my hopes up about the next best QB for LSU hype, it's been ruined for me.
I think this is the consensus now. It's the same old song and dance all through the off season and camp. Until the offense can prove it on the field I don't think anyone will take their word on the so called improvements of Harris.
Like when he threw the interception at the end of the game? That was a boneheaded move on Harris's part.
I'm not sure I would even go that far. He didn't really look bad per se, but 4 major gaffes in 16 low pressure drop backs is pretty bad. He wouldn't have had a great game if he hit all of those throws, but it probably would have been enough for the win/he would have had a comp rate that would let the coaches be comfortable with working more on the offense and less on throwing the ball properly. Edit: After a rewatching, we should probably take the roll-out out of Harris' playbook. He doesn't seem to throw well on the run.
While I stand by my opinion that the line did a fair job pass blocking in the first game the second one was very inconsistent. Some attempts had good protection others not so much. Very inconsistent especially against a team like that.
I don't understand why LSU lines any of our QB's under center. I think they'd all be more comfortable starting from the shotgun which gives them a few extra yards to see pressure coming and to find a receiver.
