They are on the same continuum of substance in terms of mind altering and brain cell killing. I'm not talking about illness, death, suicide, dui, etc. That also doesn't mean they are the same in terms of severity, just that they all share common attributes. A drug is a drug is a drug. Where it falls on that drug line differs but it's still a drug.

So you would add sugar and caffeine to this list as well?

Oh and by the way, a study in 2015 found that pot doesn't kill brain cells.

We have been conditioned since refer madness came out to think pot was some terrible narcotic, but it's not. The only negative I can think of is what it could potentially do to your lungs, but you can vape or eat it, and it takes away all aggression, which in some cases is a good thing some cases it isn't.

Sure. Although neither of those in a "normal" daily amount inhibit thinking, driving, working functions in the way that other substances like pot do.
Refer Madness is/was a total joke and scam. I don't believe it's a terrible narcotic. However, ascribing non-violence to all pot users is no different than considering pot a terrible narcotic. Anxiety, fear, and aggression can and do accompany marijuana use in some people. In fact, for people with disorders like ADD, marijuana can have the exact opposite effect. For the veteran in your OP, pot may have done the trick but for another vet with PTSD, marijuana can be a disaster. I've seen it first-hand.

And in consideration of my appreciation for all aspects of memory, I can't say I'm a big fan of the disruption to short-term memory resulting from THC. Just me.

The way I see is if I really need to remember something I will, and if I don't that's why Google was invented and an address and date book.

It's an individual thing. I love facts, trivia, word games, stuff like that so pot just isn't an option.

From personal experience I can tell you that pot has no effect on my ability to remember facts or play trivia and word games

It does effect short-term and for some, long-term memory. You are likely an exception. I still ain't smokin it. I have no need nor interest.

    These thread titles suck balls.

    Geez.

I thought we were discussing whether Dust in the Wind was the best song ever written. Sigh.

I was going to say something about that in the Kansas thread but I resisted. Dust in the Wind may be the most depressing song ever written. Right up there with "I'd be better off in a pine box on a slow train back to Georgia."
