It's cool brother. They do lose Greene/Pollack and possibly Thomas Davis so they lose a bit of their core.

Dispite what we all want to believe, LSU is an "up and coming power", we're NOT "mainstays" like Michigan, FSU, Miami, etc. We are VERY close, we're just not there yet. Michigan is the all-time winningest program, OU has made the National Title game 3 times in, what? a 5-year stretch and won one of them. Miami made back-to-back National Title game appearances and are consistantly in the top-10 come preseason polls and USC has been a top-5 finisher 3-years running.

UGA, UF (post Spurrier) and us are ALL in the same category, IMO, in that any one of those 3 programs is capable of contending for a National Title.

Like I said, we're an up-and-coming program, and we just hired an up-and-coming coach.

Keep in mind that in Saban's 5 years here, we've been ranked in the top 10 twice, weren't ranked at all as recently as 2002 (loss to Texas in Cotton Bowl), and have 2 other top 20 finishes (I think we're going to be around 15th in the final polls). Highly respectible numbers--just not consistantly dominant yet.

Spurrier is the new gun in town that I am most concerned about.

He will not inherit a great deal of talent or experience, but in two years, South Carolina will probably be challenging for the SEC East.

Meyer will be good, but you pretty much have to have an above average defense to win a division in the SEC. The jury is out on whether Meyer will do well with his defensive situation at UF. Florida has big holes in its defensive talent pool. Zook mortgaged Florida's future on several JUCO recruits and several have turned out to be total busts due to academic problems.

UGA is in a situation similar to the one Tennessee was facing right after Manning graduated.
Shockley is a big question mark just like T. Martin was. But UGA will have a terrific running attack simply because of the fully mature OL returning and several good young running backs. Richt has some excellent red-shirted talent in the wings on both sides of the ball.

I see primarily a fight between Tennessee and UGA next year for the SEC East.

In my opinion, the SEC West is totally open and up for grabs. LSU has the talent, but will have to deal with a learning curve.

Miles will probably do as well as the Defensive Coordinator he selects.

By the way... In spite of all the talk USC is now spewing...

LSU would have beaten the crap out of USC last year.

UGA will have a huge problem at WR next year as Sean Bailey has not shown anything "great" and Mclendon has dropped a lot of balls from what I have seen.....I have family that has gone to UGA so I keep up with them a bit.

Their DL will be fine but I am not sold on Moses replacing Pollack.

The UGA offense will be very much different next season according to Richt, built around Shockley and Bryant.

AJ Bryant, Demiko Goodman and Kenny Harris are all in the wings at WR. Harris is the same size as Fred Gibson, but faster. Bryant is the fastest kid on the team and is also an ex-QB.

Richard Cook will alternate with Moses. This is the Kid that Fulmer went after tooth and nail.

But again, it will probably come down to how Shockley performs on a CONSISTENT basis. Richt is very high on him, but he remains a big question mark. The running game is a lock. It will be good.
