What does this do for some media still ranking Spurrier as one of the best SEC coaches? Does his run in the 90's continue to get him a pass after this year?
I believe it was ISLSTL that last week posted something about a strong SC team. I asked then, and I ask again...where IS this strong SC team of which people speak? They suck...they sucked last week...last year...the year before that...etc...
Are you judging his overall body of work to determine where he ranks or are you putting qualifications on your criteria (i.e. record from 2000-2008)? Spurrier has done enough to solidify that he's one of the greatest coaches in the SEC's (or college football at that) history. His last three to four years at USCeast doesn't put a damper on that because everyone knows and knew that when he went to USCeast it was going to be a major up hill battle getting the kind talent it takes to compete for the SEC title.
Vandy IS a pushover to the strong SEC teams. SC is not, has not, and will not for the foreseeable future, be a strong SEC team. They are hyped every season, and continue to look like the ACC team they should still be. Spurrier is the reason they are hyped. When Miles was on his was to Michigan last fall, there were a couple on here that really wanted us to go after Spurrier. Made me wanna puke.:dis:
No, most lists are some strange merger of both. I am talking about plugging a coach in to a program today. Spurrier is continually highly ranked despite failing at SC. When you see lists that rank the SEC coaches, what you accomplished ten years ago should not continue to get you a pass as "one of the best". Are Paterno and Bowden getting a pass as the best in their respective leagues? They both have impressive records but their best days are behind them and most people can admit it. Landry at Dallas was a great coach but the game passed him by. These guys will always be some of the greatest and Spurrier will to, but eventually they didn't measure up. People will have to start admitting it about Spurrier sooner or later. SC will crumble further as a result of losing to Vandy. That is coaching and I believe the game has passed him by.
Corso picked South Carolina to win the SEC East... Can you say, "Kiss of Death?" Vandy is on top of the leader board in the East for the first time in ???
The spitter said at half time that So. Carolina had the best defense in the SEC. Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa ha !
