Since everyone has been bickering the last few days on the board. Sunshine Pumpers vs. Panic the skys is falling People. I will admit I was one of the knee jerk reaction sky is falling types after the game this weekend, so I am not casting stones. But today I am in the sunshine pumpers camp and here is why. 1. We will see a HUGH improvement this week, why ? Because all teams dramtically improve their first week. I think LSU went there to "just win" and get back home and enter our "normal" routine. Playing SEC games and teams not 2600 miles away. 2. You will see the offense open it up a bit more - I wouldnt be suprised to see some wild tigers, Shepard, slip screens. Did we even throw one jail break or slip screen to the WR's. When have you ever seen us NOT do that. My point. That was about as vanilla offensive plan as we have ever seen. the coaches did that for a reason. 3. I think we will be suprised how much better the defense plays this week. Same as point two. They didnt know what they were getting so they went plain jane. 4. Its at home. They will have SO MUCH more energy then they did in UW. They were tired and lethargic and still won. easily. Sure they gave up a ton of yards but aside from UW's first drive and the last one which was almost 1:00am. They did good bending not breaking. We have film now, they have teaching tools. Players realized hey we cannot just walk through stuff and win. Although they did just that, and in hindsight pretty handidly.... Do I personally expect a blowout. No its an SEC game, and Vandy is no slouch. But I think we will see a well executed game and each game will get better and better. Geaux Tigers.
Hugh definitely needs to improve. He was terrible Saturday night.:hihi: To draw yet another parallel to the beginning of the '05 season, our defense finally came around against Vandy. They were facing extenuating circumstances vs Az St. and Tenn, but Bo had them playing like assassins by the time we got to Nashville. Let's hope the parallel plays out. Also, I mentioned in another thread that this is JJ's first start at Tiger Stadium. I expect him to have a wicked game.
I had a moment of clarity on Sunday realizing that all these threads about us beind mauled in the SEC is ludicrious from my perspective but they have a right to their opinion I guess. We wont get Mauled in the SEC, will we lose a game from time to time of course. You dont think UF, Bama, Arkansas are not full of talent and good coaching like we are. But this team will execute well, will play much better in each week, and when they stumble will come back and play even harder. Also we seem to forget our QB just turned 19. Tebow=Sr. Alabama's QB been practicing college football for what 4 years already ? This is a young team, I think this team will only get better each week. Sure they will stumble from time to time but the next few years of Tiger football are going to be fun to watch.
I was at the az state game and we got thrashed the entire night, if it were not for the blocked punt and the blocked field goal we would have lost for sure. Even with those blocks we needed an unbelievable play from Jamarcus at the end. Our defense sucked all night, could not stop their running back or defend against the pass. That turned out to be a damn good defense later that year. I was also at UW, and I am not going to panic, because I have seen this scenario before.
i loved lsu when lee threw all them pick 6's -- i love them after the WU game---am i worried-- not really-- we'll get better--- and so what if we go back to the chik fil a bowl-- we own that one and plus it's close-- however i'd prefer some SUGAR. We'll be fine. LSU has so many looks- no reason to show anyone just yet so they will be effective when we really need them. geaux tigers from all the way up in south bend!!!
I know Vandy played Western Carolina but they rushed for over 400 yards against them. One of the glaring weaknesses we have is our defensive line, and inability to tackle. I wouldn't just write this game off as a 53-3 blowout.
