You are naive if you think AU wont and doesnt negotiate with Sexton....and Sexton is Malzahn's agent

It wouldn't be the first time that AU fans were being naive to something going on around the AU football program.

Interesting. Since Sexton represents some of the top coaches in the business, isn't Auburn hurting themselves?

personally i think the NCAA should ban agents from negotiations with universities on college coaches behalf. think of the money universities could save if the coaches had to negotiate the contracts themselves.

The university hires the best lawyers, consultants, and athletic talent experts on their side of the table, of course. It's only fair for the coaches to get the same for themselves.

    Damn liberal.

It would appear it hasn't hurt AU yet, nor did it hurt Chizik, who severed his relationship with Sexton.

For others in this thread ..... naivety is believing a coach of Malzahn's caliber cannot do better than the Vanderbilt job by being nothing more than patient.

Like I stated, "to my knowledge" I didn't think he was a Sexton client. Sexton's firm's website doesn't list him, so that's what I was referencing:

I don't think that anyone denies the talent and knowledge that Malzahn possesses. I think most are basing that opinion on the risk of AU having serious repercussions for the Cam situation. This is not to say that it is for certain that anything will happen to AU over the Cam situation, but that by passing up the opportunity to be a HC now, as opposed to waiting, Malzahn is risking that if something does happen ,and he is still there when it does, he may not be afforded the same opportunities.

That said, as I mentioned and even though he is obviously very talented, there are several HC positions available right now, and thus far, none of the others have come calling to my knowledge. I mean the lowly Univ of Miami settled for a coach from Temple when the could have had Malzahn. Not that Miami is any great program, but it is most definitely a power program just waiting for the right coach to bring them back to life. Also, one of the greatest gigs going was open, and instead of even talking to Malzahn UF went to Tex to grab Muschamp. You also had, Pitt, a really nice Big East program that was in need of a coach, and instead of looking to Malzahn and AU they turned to Miami of Ohio to pick up Haywood. Now Haywood is a successful HC now, but he still isn’t all that much greater than an OC of AU.

Or one could take the opinion that Malzahn is a pretty smart guy and knows that he really isn’t ready to take over a program any greater than Vandy, because of his inexperience. So, why promote yourself to fail at a bigger program and why take a job that has serious challenges like Vandy. If that is part of his reasoning than I give him big props for knowing his limitations, even if it is a possible risk staying with AU given the possibility of NCAA issues down the road.

Malzahn''s name has been mentioned at Maryland should big boy resign or be fired. The opportunities will be there and Malzahn knows it.

He may in fact be able to do better, time will tell. However he has yet to prove that he is up to the challenge of handling a job the level of HC at Vandy much less a higher profile job. I have my doubts, but once again time will tell. It's a big step up for someone with so little experience.

May be great. However, offense was average last year and be average next year without that qb with poor character. Him being declared great now is way premature.
