My name is Art Vandelay. Are you a practicing Mormon? If so, 90% of what you read will be tough to pull off.
I love this board - they have given you everything you need to have a great time in a GREAT American (with a European touch) city. If you like Italian I suggest Irene's Cuisine on St. Phillips in the quarter - she grew up in Little Italy in NY and has great food - and remember - we really appreciate you guys coming to our city.
Re: Hey Tiger fans....these responses are awesome! But, don't ask what's in it. i told a guy from florida what was in it and he took off in the other direction.
Oh yeah.... Louisiana boudin sounds much better. Yes, I am a practicing Mormon, but there will be plenty of non-Mormon Ute fans strolling your streets and I am disseminating this information to any Ute fans who will lend an ear. Besides, I make it a point to enjoy life and I've learned I can do that without breaking any personal convictions and turning my nose-up at others who see the world through a different set of eyes. I am so excited to get down to New Orleans! This has been a great thread. Keep 'em coming if you have 'em.
this thread has made me home sick. so many wonderful suggestions. and let me add a thank you to anyone who wants to pitch in and volunteer. i agree that habitat for humanity is a great place to start. as someone who is still trying to rebuild, i appreciate that. i see my neighborhood coming back bits and pieces every time i go down. every little bit helps!
I don't know if you have a hotel yet, but the Loews on Poydras is excellent. There is a great bar and restaurant with an incredible staff. It's at the end of Poydras which puts you next to Harrah’s and close to the Quarter, but away from Canal St. which can get kind of shady. Restaurants: Commander's is great. Be sure to order the bread pudding and bring a jacket. Bayona is an absolute must like Deer Valley on a powder day. Their sweetbread is amazing, just don't ask,"What is this?" If you want to be adventurous, go to Cochon in the Warehouse District. Their menu has a good bit of shock value, but everything is excellent. Any of the above places serve great Sazeracs. After breakfast at Cafe du Monde, go see the Aquarium, then take the riverboat to the Zoo (hopefully the boat is still running). After that, walk to St. Charles St. through Audubon Park and take the streetcar back downtown. Name: Vance Ertel
That does it! I cant take it anymore! I'm taking a weekend trip. Every time I go, I say I am going to go to the WWII museum, and every time, I end up drunk instead and say, "Aw, hell, I'll just catch it next time."
