The Pac 10 didn't make BYU an option because of a couple of member universities objections towards their religious background. Due to their faith they limit themselves from playing sports on Sundays. This wasn't going to set well with some of the liberal minded Pac 10 schools. BYU doesn't allow and is allowed not to schedule games or sporting events like basketball and baseball on Sundays.

Wouldn't a "liberal mind" be more cool with a school that doesn't want to do something like play on Sunday? It would be the "conservatives" that wouldn't be cool with a team that doesn't play baseball on Sunday, for example.
