COLUMBIA, Mo. - When the University of Texas called Southlake Carroll (Texas) High football coach Todd Dodge last week, quarterback Chase Daniel was surprised.

The No. 1 quarterback in the nation, Ryan Perrilloux, is expected to change his commitment from Texas to LSU today, and the Longhorns were scrambling to find a backup plan.

But Daniel, who has lost one game in his high school career, never has been a backup plan for anyone, and wasn't about to start.

Daniel's surprise over the call and subsequent scholarship offer from Texas stemmed from the Longhorns' hope that Daniel would change his commitment from Missouri. Especially because Texas, the school he had always dreamed of attending, had earlier decided against offering him a scholarship.

"I am going to Missouri, there's no doubt about that," Daniel said Tuesday. "I was sort of happy when Texas called because it gave me a chance to turn them down. And now they're stuck. It felt good."

Wonder what the UT fans would say about him breaking his committment to Mizzou this late in the game?
