Officially neither can claim it. Anything printed or said BY each school must use the "location" tag.

They should just embrace it. UCLA does....

I have lived in Baton Rouge and Lafayette and I will say Lafayette is a much nicer place to live. Not nearly as Dark as Baton Rouge. My whole family moved out of Baton Rouge and now live in Denim and Walker. A few of them in prairieville.

Scientifically speaking, I think you'll find that Lafayette and Baton Rouge have exactly the same number of hours of dark and light, not counting the occasional cloud of course.

USL tried to become the U of L but the legislature and the State Board would only allow the change if another school would do the same so there could be a U of LA System. So Northeast Louisiana agreed to change its name toi U of La - Monroe. So now we have U LA - La and U LA - Mo. But the ULL people have a real thing about being just the U of L.

Tulane was originally a public college, The University of Louisiana. Then Paul Tulane a New Orleans businessman donated a lot of money (for the 1800's) to the school and the legislature let the U of La go private, the only time a state school in the USA has become a private college. The name on their official seal is The Tulane University of Louisiana.

I had forgotten the "Univ of Slow Learners" joke!

Good example, There is the University of California system which has 9 campuses: Berkeley (aka Cal Bears), Davis, Irvine, Los Angeles - Ucla as it says on the helmets aka the Bruins, Merced, Riverside, San Diego, San Francisco, Santa Barbara and Santa Cruz - as seen in Pulp Fiction, Travolta wears this UCSC t-shirt after he accidentally kills the guy in the back seat (that is their real mascot on the shirt!

and there is also a California State University system with 23 campuses! Most of them are Cal State somewhere and a few are Cal Poly somewhere else and there is San Diego State, San Francisco State and San Jose State. If you want to see them all go here Cal State system campuses

I did not know this, just thought P. Tulane's money started the U from scratch. Thanks for the fact!
