As if changing the name makes this small, regional university anything other than a small regional university. It's sorta silly and actually makes them seem kinda insecure about their school. Just my 2 pennies.
Tonight during the NBC game Bears db Charles Tillman called it THE University of Louisiana. One of his teammates then said UL Monroe for his school. My question is, why does ULL get to claim this U of Louisiana nonsense but Monroe doesn't? Not that it effects me or LSU in any way, just curious.
Tulane was the first University of Louisiana. (maybe college of Louisiana?) (JohnLSU should be able to confirm this)
I've always referred to them as Slow Learners Institute then University of Slow Learners. But now they've made it easier to pick at them. UL LAF or yoU'L Laugh or Oooh La La. Having worked around Laf. and watching there media outlets I always came away with the feeling that the city as a whole has small man issues. They refer themselves as the "Hub" city. Come on now. Accept yourselves for what you are. Nothing revolves around Lafayette except buzzards. Hey and I was born there.
Oh, so do I. Everything in my original post is copied from their message board. Nothing pissed them off more than calling them USL. They'd rather you say "UL will lose to LSU by 100 than saying USL will beat LSU next saturday."
