For all of USC's and ESPN's crying that USC is not well publicized because the games start too late and East Coast writers are asleep here is their 2008 schedule and a few notes:

    Virginia 3:30 EST
Ohio State 8:00 EST (national prime time game)
Oregon State 9:00 EST (national cable game)
    Oregon 8:00 EST
    Arizona State 3:30 EST
    Washington State 3:30 EST
Arizona (closest victory margin) 10:30 EST (national cable game)
    Washington 6:30 ET
    California 8:00 PM
    Stanford 7:00 PM
Notre Dame 8:00 ET (national prime time game)
    UCLA 4:30 ET

-- Notice that the only two games starting after 8 Eastern, 7 Central (LSU's normal start time) are USC's loss and closest margin of victory.

-- Is USC/ESPN under the impression that "East Coast" writers get tucked in at 6:00 every Saturday?

-- How did Utah get to #6 and rising as an unheralded school playing in a non-BCS conference? (Oh, right, they won all of their games and beat Oregon State.

-- Does USC/ESPN really want to pretend that they get no coverage??!! The only way they could get more coverage would be if Paris Hilton and Pete Carroll made a sex tape on the 50 yard line at halftime!!!

Do you have a link to someone from USC or ESPN complaining about this?

there is a definite problem with the way voting is done. but it has nothing to do with who does or doesn't play late.

    1. Coaches Poll - A coach watches one game a day -- his own. How can he judge how good another team looked? They then rely upon graduate assistants to vote for them, who then have an obvious bias -- to not vote the best 25 teams, but to slant the poll in the favor of their team.

    2. AP - sportswriters who cover a collegiate team watch one game a day -- the team they cover. maybe bits and pieces of others in the box, but not anything enough to judge who is or isn't top dog.

They should hire a pool of people and make it their job on Saturday's to watch all of the games of significance.

    (not a bad job, eh?)

You're right. Either that or have each come out with a revised poll several days later to allow the pollsters time to evaluate all the critical games.

I've never heard it coming from USC. It's always ESPN using it. I believe Herbie and Muffburger used it the other night. Sorry no link.

I nominate Phil Steele for one of those spots. He definitely watches every game possible on saturday's.

So....two guys from ABC/ESPN make some remarks while searching for something to talk about during a blowout - and it's reason to get really offended?

Sounds about par for the course.

hmm do i hear a job for Las Vegas bookies? :hihi:

They tend to do a decent job handicapping most games.
