I stopped reading after this. I don't give a sh!t who is the best team in the month of January. I want the best team for the entire season. The NFL playoffs have mase the regular season meaningless. I much prefer a system where September, October, November, and December have equal (preferably more) than January. I can make a better case AGAINST 3 of the 4 teams still alive than I can for them.
Not a bad string there, at all. But I am another SEC homer who believes USC would have a tougher time in the SEC. The SEC has, on average, a number of strong teams and then a number of pretty strong teams and a few not so good teams. It seems the PAC10 has some strong and pretty strong teams and a bunch of 40-80 range teams. USC has a great program, but they also only have 1 crystal ball. Hey, you're preaching to the choir. I totally agree with you on this. I'm not sure why you thought I disagreed.
because of our previous arguement on this subject. you either take team according to rankings (and rankings only) which brings the possibilty of rematches, making regular season conference championships irrelevant. or you take only conference champs, which leaves out teams like Bama and Texas who had better seasons than Cincy or Va Tech, making the post season an even bigger joke than it is now.
Veebs you forgot to mention a 4-0 record against the SEC that includes a 2006 50-14 drubbing of SEC West champion Arkansas. Just saying...
I only got this far, saw how many pages there were left, and have one thing to say: It's a shame how many people didn't take the time to think about it and have such kneejerk reactions like those I just read. "F*** USC" and that's it? Really? These are the kinds of terrible fans LSU has to deal with these days. Those that leave with 12 seconds left in the Bama game, completely giving up on the Tigers- oh wait, we went to overtime. Troy game- same deal, leaving at the half when it was one of the greatest comebacks in the history of Tiger football. USC has a great, great program and Pete Carroll knows exactly what he's doing when he says stuff like "My team could beat any team in the country." And it's true. tirk's question was not did they deserve the national title, he was only wondering the opinion of posters in regards to the statement that they could have been the best team in the country this year. And I am likely to reply in the affirmative- Florida was great, but I think that would have been a close game that could have gone either way, straight down the middle 50-50 out of 10 played. The real question, I think, is are they the greatest PROGRAM in the country with the sheer amount of success they've had lately? EDIT: Read some more of this stuff: I don't want to rant further so I'll say this. I'm with Nootch 100%.
One thing about USC and the pac10... When was the last time another team won that conference and how many times has another team been top dog since USC reemerged? USC seems to have a lot in common with Florida St and Miami before the ACC merger. Big fish in little pond.
Petey Carroll said that Taylor Mays is returning for his senior year. I hate seeing kids jump too early but I think this kid should go now. I wonder if it's his decision or if he's being pressured to stay. PC may be worried that at some point Trojan fans will finally realize it's not the BCS' fault USC isn't playing for the title...but the fact their coach can't prevent his team from losing a gimme game each season.
