I wish, but LSU has nothing to gain from adding yet another ranked opponent to a schedule that usually has no less than four, but normally five ranked opponents. besides, after the first ass-whipping I wouldn't expect SC to honor the second game for fear they might permanently sully their sterling reputation in media circles with a second ass-whipping at the hands of the Tigers. By far are they the biggest recipient of undeserved praise from these arguments. To put an end to them would take away Pete Carroll's reason for living.
Wouldn't ALL SEC teams have an issue with "what year" they travel? I don't know who insisted on what but the "A" teams managed to make a deal for 2 games and yes, both were out here first. Auburn, Arkansas...and I believe the next SEC team we will play during the regular season will be Alabama. Because I think they might like to hold out for a bowl matchup and the really big $$. Then again maybe it's only LSU and USC fans who give a **** about a head to head. Yes and I've read nothing to dispell the idea that THIS YEAR, USC might just be the best team in the country.
Indeed, they might. So might Utah. And Florida. And Texas. Here's an idea. Let's have a playoff system that starts with the Conference champ game, then pits the BCS conf champs against each other, until we get a winner. Should be done by, what, mid Feb? Give NSD a whole new significance. Of course, gotta get all them lite conferences to pony up to a champ game...
I don't know/care about other SEC teams. I just know our even years are our toughest schedules, so it will take a miracle to get them for an away OOC game. And if USC's sticking point is that a team must travel there first, that's pretty arbitrary and counterproductive. I don't get the logic behind that one at all. I don't think that is true. I believe most fanbases would tune into that game at the drop of a hat. A matchup in the NCG is the only other likely scenario, and getting to that game is hard enough for one team, much less both of us. You might be the best team nearly every year. Heck with the way you recruit, you could field 2 really good teams. But all that talent may not be helping you. If you keep stubbing your toe midway through the season, the fanbases/computers are gonna keep on making you pay for it.
I would say it is pretty certain that USC is the best team in the country this season without a :crystal: for the trophy case. Heres to better fortunes for us both next season, without having to share of course.
Certainly Utah. USC looks better than they really are because of who they play. Ditto with Oklahoma's offense.
Play more ranked opponents? You mean like this year when Florida played then undefeated "#4" LSU? Or are you referring to when Alabama played then undefeated and "#1" Georgia? Unbeaten "#6" LSU beating "#10" and also undefeated Auburn??? Even perennial powderpuff Vanderbilt managed to hop scotch all the way to #13 by beating "#24" South Carolina and then "#13" Auburn. LOL It's precisely weak OOC scheduling that opens the door wide open for debates like this when tOSU plays Texas even in their Bowl game while we beat them handily and then thrash Penn St who also beat tOSU (when they had both Pryor and Wells in their lineup). Add that up to both Georgia being just a pretty good team, and especially LSU and Auburn having poor years and it creates a perfect storm. Former #1 Alabama losing to an MWAC team in their Bowl game was icing on the cake. BTW this isn't some meaningless scheduling anomaly: You cite LSU's playing 4 Pac 10 teams from 03-06 but don't discuss who else you had an the OOC schedule those same years. 2003-Louisiana-Monroe and Western Illinois 2004-Arkansas State and Troy 2005-North Texas and Appalachian State 2006-Louisiana-Lafayette, Tulane and Fresno St.
You west coast people will never get it. this thread should be closed. what close minded people on the west coast.o:
The problem is that they've boxed themselves in a corner with their drivelling about OOC schedules being more important than any team's schedule in its entirety. The minute they start arguing that a team should be judged by an entire season's body of work, they lose all claim to their dubious "AP NAtional Championship" of 2003. That year LSU had a tougher schedule, which is why computer rankings nudged LSU ahead of the Trojans and into the title game against Oklahoma (and that offseason, the computer rankings were lessened in importance as a factor in the BCS formulations in order to make human bias and fallibility more of a factor.)
USC has no business being discussed as the best team. If Florida played in the PAC 10 this past year, they would have been undefeated. Florida would have been able to play their 2nd and 3rd strings in the 2nd half against the PAC 10. Do you really think that Florida would lose to Oregon State? Come on, Tiger Fans, you are watching way to much ESPN. Maybe we should all listen to Brent Musburger....NOT. Ole Miss would beat USC. LSU would beat USC. Georgia would beat USC. If USC wants any respect they can join our conference, I personally would be happy to kick Vandy or Miss State out. Do you think ESPN will hype USC next year? How bout the Yankees? Oh maybe it has to do with large media markets. You think!
