Although the BCS has caused bowl "alterations" from time to time, I fail to see where the "tie-ins really aren't very good at all". The Sugar Bowl has an SEC tie-in and who do they get to come play of late... Utah, Hawaii, a bad ND team... The Orange Bowl tie-in.... just sayin' Although an SEC fan may think the Rose Bowl has a tie-in problem by linking the Big Ten and PAC 10, it can't be beaten for viewership, advertising income and total revenue. There's only four major bowls for the six "BCS conference" champions... something's gotta give... The Rose Bowl, historically, has it the best of any bowl.
Like I've said before...it's a great parade with a meaningless football game. The only reason it receives the hype is due to the 30 million people population of California. As long as the Rose Bowl wants to maintain their so-called tradition, they should be left out of the BCS mix. Can anybody actually stay awake through another Michigan/USC Rose Bowl? Over the last decade it should be known as the "What If" bowl as all we hear about is how either or both teams coulda, woulda, shouda played for the National Championship had they not lost to a high school team. BORING! 11 - BCS NCs 1- Big 10 1 - Pac 1 5 - SEC 2 - Big 12 1 - ACC 1 - Big East
the rest of the Pac-10s tie ins aren't very good though Holiday : Pac-10 #2 vs Big 12 # 3 (#4 if 2 Big 12 go to BCS games) Sun: Pac-10 #3 vs Big 12 #4 or #5 Las Vegas: vs MWC Emerald: vs Wac Poinsettia: vs MWC so right now, they are either playing a middle of the pack Big !@ team that half the country doesn't give a sh!t about, or a mid-major. and lately, with the MWC and WAC getting shots in BCS game, the Pac-10 is getting matched up with teams no one knows anything about. but their best non-BCS match-up is their #2 vs potentially the 4th best team in the Big XII. where as the SEC and Big Ten have tie ins to those bowl in Florida that usually create a better match-up that more people are interested in seeing.
and now the pac10 has signed an Alamo Bowl deal and their standing with the Holiday Bowl is questionable.
The Sugar Bowl has had some real stinkers come in as of late. It usually has something to do with the SEC having a team in the NCG, so at-larges are getting invited to the Sugar. Nootch addressed the other issue of PAC 10 tie-ins very well. They have zero tie-ins with the SEC, for instance, and that's a shame. And why do they have tie-ins AT ALL with the MAC, WAC, etc.?
I would love to see LSU in the Rose Bowl. I've always hated to see just the Big 12 to be the only one allowed in. Not fair at all....
