Both had about the same amount of experience in terms of length of service at USC. Seto did coach both the LBs as well as DBs, however. Maybe that was the difference. Norton has only coached LBs.
Norton got a promotion, too, though... Got the assistant HC title with control of the defense... So how does that work? We can only hope it's similar to the co-coordinator system.
Good luck with that USC. I'll take a lower division DC that has had 5 years or more experience calling defenses over promoting a position coach. All the talent in the world can't do anything if your coach isn't calling the right schemes during the game. Where did we learn that?....
let's not get carried away... PETEY is the man in control of the defense, no matter who has what title.
I would disagree. Seto is in his 8th year at USC, came in with PC, and was a player at USC. He has coached safeties, linebackers, and the secondary. Norton is in his 5th year, came in as a grad asst after Dorrell wasn't interested, and has been the linebacker coach. Both are excellent recruiters but Rocky has more experience and a better idea of the "big picture" in terms of the defense. Come gameday, PC still calls the D packages anyway which is one big reason why Holt left. Holt will get full control of play calling during the games. Norton has contemplated two different offers from ucla and continued to stay where he is. No doubt he'll move on eventually but he did just get a promotion and Jethro Franklin has been brought back as the DL coach dis. There are still one or two GA slots open....interesting names being thrown out.
Yeah I really didn't count 3 years of being a grad assistant as "substantial" experience. I figured Seto had a better grasp of the overall defense.
