Sooner or later it always comes back to the eye test. ESPN said that USC was to have been a proven commodity. To whom? Which era where they alluding to? It was Standford who was going for 4 in a row...........at home. Next week, the next two great programs in the known universe, Florida State vs Clemson. Seeing is believing.
Yep. It was the writers on the LEFT coast that had USC so high. I think knowledgeable football folks knew USC's roster was depleted and that they lacked quality depth. They would not make it through half of the SEC season.
to be fair... we played Idaho while USC went up against one of the best defensive front 7's in the nation (Stanford has two All-American caliber LBs and their defensive line only lost one player from a unit that last year finished sixth in rushing defense and 11th in sacks nationally). also, USC's starting center, senior Holmes, was their best lineman and one of the best interior linemen in the nation, so him being out was a big loss for USC on top of that, USC's back-up center, Markowitz (also a senior), also got hurt so that left USC with freshman Cyrus Hobbi (who Kiffin said they "have great confidence" when they were preparing for Stanford) and then on top of that, USC was without their three best DEs vs Stanford: Kennard, Tavai, and Horton of those USC injuries, 4 occurred last v week Syracuse (the center and his back up, and two of the DEs) it would be like if we played Stanford without Mingo, Sam, and Edwards at DE and also without Lonergan and Porter at center
This morning, listening to local Los Angeles radio talk show recap of last night's game, hosted by the USC game announcers who are certainly pro USC fans, and very good announcers, they simply admitted that USC was plain out beaten in a game that USC had circled on their calendar having now lost the last four contests to Stanford. While they acknowledged that having key injuries was big, they went on to say that USC was overrated this year based on USC's first two games which were not very dominate wins. However, being USC fans, they pointed that last year, USC started out slow and came on strong and hope that this year year will also unfold the same.
