No way we send those trophies back because USC will try to get their grubby little hands on them and then strut around as "National Champion." But as far as I am concerned we could put the things in a closet, throw them in the river, whatever. Just don't put them next to the crystal.

As for being "bitter" this year. Heck they were bitter and claimed championships in 2003 when we got the crystal and in 2005 after they LOST to Texas AT HOME. Lienert: "We were the best team in the country last year [in reference to the season they lost to Texas]."

USC lives in Hollywood. They believe the script calls for them to win in the end. No other endings will be released to theaters. Remember this is the part of the country that once thought cocaine was a good idea, but now condemns you if you are not organically pure, environmentally green and macrobiotically cleansed.

"It’s a frustration that Auburn fans felt the next year, with no national title of any kind coming their way."

I'm pretty sure Auburn was listed as national champion by one obscure group, "The National Championship Foundation, or Southern Sportswriter's or something. Heck, Tubby might have done what Paterno did in the 1970's after Penn State had posted several undefeated seasons over a ten-year span and not gotten a title: he got about half-a-dozen Pennsylvania are sportswriters together, bought 'em a steak dinner, then left the room whole they voted in a secret ballot. Guess who won? He called it the "Paterno Poll" and he did it because the NCAA would not let him by his team rings to celebrate the season (they were independent then, so no conference championship) because the were not a "recognized" champion.

Cocaine doesn't really interfere with those three principles.

Y'know...back in 03 after the BCS game, there were Rumors floating around about Bill gates actually picking up the tab for a post season game between LSU/USC on a neutral site. As it goes, both schools declined the offer. Would have been fun though, although, as good as those Tigers were I'd feel much more confident in the coaching staff and kids we have now, if something like that would be offered and agreed to. Well, as I said it was only a rumor ,as far as I know. besides didn't Gates go to Harvard?

It was Gateway Computers that offered it, and the NCAA that stopped it. The only article I found was a wiki one, but I remember it being reported at that time.

Of course we keep the AP Poll trophy. In Hollywood they refer to that as an "extra". You know, something to fill in the gaps in the background like Texas does with their swimming championship trophies.

"USC would’ve likely beaten anyone but LSU in the Rose Bowl. LSU would’ve beaten everyone in the BCS Championship"

Wow, that is sweet. And true.

Now you know the secret. You see, this is why I hang out on TF. I learn so much here, and I can then go to work and impress my co-workers! :)
