i don’t give much shit about HS football. or the NFL. or the lower divisions of college ball. or canadian league. or soccer, NASCAR, NBA, women’s badminton, or any other example of existing playoffs you throw out. i do however care very deeply and passionately about FBS level of the NCAA. and one of my favorite parts of the sport is the EXCLUSIVITY of it. it DEMANDS excellence starting on day one. not “oooh, take your time and work out your lil boo-boos, then just be great at the end.” it penalizes you for your fuckups. the bigger the goof, the harsher the penalty. not like the NFL that treats a loss to the winless hapless Browns exactly equal to a loss to the 10-2 Patriots. it gives every game every week a do or die absolute must win passion (from players, coaches, fans, media) that is unrivaled in any other American sport. not “man, i really hope we win”, more “we abso-fucking-lutely MUST win. no other options” then you have the chaos. chaos that is a much bigger driving force of this sport than you’re giving credit. chaos that makes you root harder for an underdog than you do in other sports. why? because if Cleveland beats the Patriots, yeah it’s cool. but it still only counts as one loss and has zero bearing on their playoff status. but 3 win Pittsburgh beats #2 and NC bound West Virginia? ALL HELL BREAKS LOOSE! Chaos is beautiful. Embrace the chaos. with every team you add to the postseason, another part of what makes this sport the greatest on the planet dies.
I remember Miles saying we finished second about a game we lost. My first thought was "BULLSHIT"...and I was a sunshine pumper back then. LOL.
As evidenced by the phrase "quality wins" that was pounded on everyone before the selection. I don't think I've ever seen so many arguments that just haven't made sense.
