I am of the opinion, you wanna be the best then you gotta play the best. The more top tier teams we play the better. I would rather be 10-2 with the scedule we played this year, than 12-0 with the schedule TCU or Oregan played.
The SEC's rep will survive if Florida isn't a Top 10 every year and nothing else changes. But not everybody even gets the same shake in the SEC. I detest permanent opponent, and for what? So Bama and Tennessee can preserve their precious little rivalry game? How would it have affected Bama last year if they had Florida as permanent opponent and was forced to play them twice en route to the NC? Florida not in the Top 10 with LSU going 12-0 is nowhere close to being the same thing as running the table in the Pac-10 or a mid-major.
I would rather be undefeated and in the NCG with a weak schedule anyday! But back to the thread... Does anyone else have "ding dong the wicked witch is dead" playing in their head right now?
No way. Not enough golf courses around UF for him. I am hearing Petrino from Arkansas is a possible option... That and Mullen seem to be the most common names.
I have Petrino pegged as a weasel after watching his song and dance in going to the Falcons and then to Arky. The guy just comes across as disingenuous to me. He can run an offense though.
Here in Jacksonville they are taking: 1) Mullen 2) Peterson Or hometown hero 3) Kerwin Bell - former Gator QB who coached the local Jacksonville University to a 10-1 season. They led the nation in total offense and scoring. Many are ticked at Urban for not just quitting for good the first time. Should be fun to watch it flame up over the next few weeks....
The SEC frowns on SEC schools raiding other SEC schools for coaches, starting with Tuberville dumping Ole Miss for Auburn. He was only at Auburn for a year when the LSU job came open and he wanted it too and his agent, Jimmy Sexton, came to LSU to pitch Tuberville for the opening. But Tuberville became uncomfortable leaving AU so soon and LSU was dubious about his contract jumping anyway. So Sexton instead pitched another client of his . . . a fellow from Michigan State named Saban. Houston Nutt had been fired from Arkansas, so Ole Miss didn't rob another SEC school and was blessed by the SEC. So I doubt if Mullen leaves State so soon for another SEC school. It would leave a very Kiffen-like taste in the mouth of all his future prospects. Spurrier will never go back to Florida, he could never deliver what he delivered before and South Carolina is happy with him. I think they go out of conference.
