Excellent point, Tirk. Of course, it's near impossible for opposing fans to accept such reasoning, especially with football season looming on the horizon. But you're right - Meyer's reasoning is likely much more complex than a simple "I need this guy to win." That being said, I would have kicked his ass off the team after having a serious talk to him about where his life is headed.
IF that is what meyer is doing its commendable, but still i think its not the best thing to do. surely it wouldnt be hard to find another player to take the scholarship and put it to better use. IF he is a man of integrity, though, the "family" thing gets in the way.
Meyer will pay the ultimate price for this, with loss of control over his program and eventual dismissal after Florida bears the fruit of these poor decisions. This won't stop here, it will continue and continue. You reap what you sow in this world, and the milk of human kindness doesn't work when gun and drug offenses come into the picture. Meyer will be perceived as weak on discipline, and every thug wannabee they recruit will push it to the limit at the newest Thug U. Expect more in 2008. I see a parallel between the RP affair and this, right up to the point when RP clearly violated team rules (drug test failed was leaked out). Then RP was gone, despite the cost to the team's title hopes. if RP had been caught with a bag of smoke like this cat, then he would have been history right then. If Meyer had any integrity at all, Lewis should have been long gone, despite Gainesville PD attempts to help the Gator Program. This doesn't help our conference one bit, having all these Thug Programs associated with the SEC. It does improve LSU's chances of continued domination in our conference. That's looking at the bright side of things.
