There was a difference in the quality of the program when each coach took over. Apples and Oranges, though your data does show that Saban never had back to back rebuilding years.
Good post lsu i like! I don't think its unrealistic at all. The only problem I have with Miles is that the line play seem less dominant than when he arrived. All he had to do is maintain the program at the same level it was when he came here and it looks like he couldn't do it. I don't want to see CLM's leave unless he wants to leave on his own. I am not saying he should be fired, I'll give him one more year to fix things. The funny thing is that after the GT bowl game I thought the offense would be fine. I haven't been able to figure out what happened after that game unless we lost offensive linemen, I don't keep up with that kind of thing, too busy!
The comparrison with Saban is not about wins and losses, Miles wins that argument, his record proves it. But Miles did not come into the program under the same circumstances, so comparing them on W/L is a non-issue. No doubt Miles is a likeable guy, Saban is not. Hell, all you have to do is look at that Oher movie and one can easily see the amount of lotion it took to get Saban's face to actually form a smile. I can respect Saban as a coach, doesn't mean I like him, or Miles for that matter; I've never met either one. I've got a lot of reasons to respect Miles as a person over Saban, but that doesn't necessarily translate to what happens on the field or preparation prior. In 2004, in Saban's last game, LSU lost to Iowa in the Cap One bowl. Saban flat out said the DB (I don't remember who it was) missed an assignment. Miles may have said something along the lines of, "the want to make that play was there and we certainly would like to have made that stop for the victory."
Travis Daniels and Ronnie Prude were back there on that play. Kind of funny because Saban is the only coach i have ever known to have lost 2 games on a hail mary, and won 1 game on a hail mary.
In the ajc. newspaper, big write up on mark richt. Its hard to believe that much heat is on him this fast. His winning percentage is not the issue, been successful for a decade, The fans are upset with their perception of the product. You could argue before the Blackout last year his team was on top of the football world. Last year, the barn, now georgia, it doesn't take long.
exactly what i am afraid of, hell bama this decade other than last year and this one, and the franchione one. Its easy to fall off the map, and it can happen real fast. Ask Miami, and Florida State.
i respect CLM 100% even though not all of his calls or doings i agree with.sure Saben is a good coach but to start with what Miles did for this program and the state after the storm. To me it says alot about the man and his character but is it just me or has it seemed like CLM has lost alittle bit of the edge that he has had since the end of the 2007 season.:miles:
No doubt Miles was in the right place in 2005, and handled that situation much better probably than Saban would have. That is a good question, though. One can definitely make the argument complacency may have taken hold somewhat last year, and this year has been more of a rebuilding, an understanding of sorts.
These guys get paid a ton of money and the alumni/boosters expect results, as they should. The perception is that UGA teams don't live up to expectations. Fans see the success at UF and particularly what Saban has quickly done at Alabama. They want it too and are getting tired of waiting for next year. And recruiting in that neck of the woods is uber-competitive, being surrounded by traditional SEC powers. Miles is on the hot seat because he has a sub .500 SEC program over the last 2 seasons. And he made a fool of himself on national TV. Truth is, nobody fears The Hat anymore.
