Option running QB+no seasoned backup=Bad news. Until someone official confirms this, its just a rumor. Would explain a lot if true. Hang in there JL!!!
First of all, I think this is all rumor and speculation about Lee. Think about it, he is a 5th year senior, so he already has a degree. Secondly, all he has to do is take classes to "stay in school", but he does have to stay above a minimun required hours, which I think is 13? So, he is not failing out of school, but IF he fails a class or tries to drop one and goes below the minimum hours needed to be enrolled he does have a problem and may be inelligibile. Thirdly, I would like to see JL off the bench first, in either the SECCG or the NCCG, IF something happens to JJ. But, I have no worries about Mett having to play significant snaps in either game. Mett is good AND our offensive coordinators would utilize pass plays that he could handle and were safe. My bet is that Mett is a gamer and would do well, but my hope is that we don't have to find out until next season.
I am sure that Mettenberger has an arm and is a gamer, but he has practically no experience reading a sophisticated pro-style defense like Alabama. That is NOT the game I want to see him learn that the hard way. He needs to work up to it like any other player, not be thrown into the high-pressure cooker against the best defense out there in the national championship game.
I agree 100%, which is why I said I would rather wait to see Mett next season, but, I would rather see Mett vs Rivers or Randall IF it came down to playing a "freshman." At least Mett has College experience (was beating out UGA's Murray that spring) and a year of JUCO snaps. That is my only point: Mett has some experience vs any other Freshman. You are right, Bama could/would make any Freshman look silly, just ast Texas.
Exactly. See also: Garret Gilbert. The fact that he had this experience vs the tide makes it an uncomfortable coincidence from me. Remember what play it was the McCoy got injured on? The option.
I tend to agree. JJ isn't nearly that soft. But still, I just don't like the similarities. Regarding JLee, if it was a very real possibility that he would be ineligible for the bowl, wouldn't the coaches be working in Mettenberger as much as they could right now? So far, Lee has gotten into the game to make his handoffs before Zach. Seems like they'd just go straight to Mett and let him sling it a few times. I'm not doubting that he has academic issues, but it's just hard for me to fathom the coaching staff not planning for the worst. I always felt that, after the bama game, Miles knew that he may very well have to play them again, and he also knew that he'd need JJ in order to beat them. I think he felt that he could win the remaining games with either QB starting, so may as well let JJ get tuned-up to finish out the season. That's why I wasn't terribly surprised to see JJ starting. But I have been surprised to see Lee getting so few touches and so late in the game.
