We are now the only undefeated team in the SEC at 6-0. I like the fact that we will fly under the radar for a while. I like what I saw. Great team chemistry. Solid fundamentals. Blocking out... Rebounding...Second Chance Put Backs...Running the floor...Free Throw shooting. Check out Chris Johnsons flying slam on Sportscenter.
I was very impressed with Coach Johnson and how he has the Tigers playing. It's going to be a fun year in basketball.
Most complete Tiger basketball team I've seen in some time. Not as good as the Final Four team but plays a more complete game IMO. Defense, hustle, shooting, rebounding, inside scoring, it was all there tonight. Tasmin looks like really polished now. He really came off the hiatus like a new player. I'm loving his finishing ability inside so far. Chris Johnson is beginning to assert himself more as well. I see shades of dominance every so often from him. Loved his slams tonight.
Great win. Remember this is a CSF team that played #24 Wake Forest to within 6 points or so, and we beat them handily. Unfortunately, FSN wasn't carrying the game in TX either. What a sham! But, the balance is there scoring among the starters. Coach Johnson has Marcus Thornton playin' D AND scoring 24 points. MT could be a solid NBA draft pick, as is Chris Johnson, when this is all done. And, they'll be thanking Mr. Trent Johnson. It'll be interesting indeed this year! You just feel like even if they lose, they'll be clawing and fighting in every game. :geaux:
Right now Thornton is playing like a poor man's Joe Johnson. Handling the ball, shooting the 3 and mixing it up on the boards and inside. He's not as tall as Joe at 6'5 but he's got enough size and strength to be an effective 2 in the NBA IMO. Not a star but a decent option for a team for sure.
Agreed. I'm not saying MT would be a first round pick, but as far as SGs go, he's someone you look at for maybe an early second round type of pick. He's a good shooter, and he's relatively athletic. Good scorers and guys who can hit the three are always looked at, and the only question with Marcus was his willingness to play at both ends. If he can keep his 3 ball % up and show hustle on the defensive end, he could surprise some folks when it comes to draft time. Also, did you notice the attendance numbers? Over 9,000 fans at last night's game (not completely sure if that's paid or attended, but that's above the average and it's a Tuesday night game). We could debate this over and over, but is this b/c you've got a likeable respectable coach now, a team that is playing hard and fun to watch or the fact that folks have lost interest in football? Or, a little of all of the above? In any case, we're 6-0. And, we have Texas A&M, Washington State and Utah coming up. There are decent games ahead folks!
That was paid attendance. I actually wound up being able to go to the game and there wasn't even close to that many people. 5,000 would even be a generous number. But those that were in attendance gave the team a lot of love. I remember thinking a couple of times, wow this place would be awesome packed. The student sections was almost full for the first time too.
