im hearing that uno may drop all athletic programs. primarily due to state budget cuts and needing the funds to go elsewhere. anyone else hear this? any truth to these rumors?
I've been following it a little, and it looks like it's going to be close. Maybe between the support of local business, some help from the legislature, and maybe even a smaller tuition hike than the original request they can pull it off. 05/05 - UNO gains some local support for athletics 05/01 - UNO students defeat fee hike for athletics I assume when they say "the increase, which would have been almost double what students pay" applies to an existing portion of tuition for athletics, not to the entire cost of tuition. With a cap under $200, that would make sense.

any updates on the presser, khounba? i would hate to see their athletics fold. the baseball rivalry has been a good one and they have had some good teams.
Shinn is going to head a committee to raise $$ and support for the Athletics program. They urged everyone to write their legislators in support of higher education. It's the insane budget cuts higher Ed. will most likely have to face that will cause UNO to drop Athletics. Hopefully the legislature will lower the cuts along with more support from the community and UNO can keep Athletics.
khounba, i forgot to ask you.... a friend of ours in metairie insists that because uno is primarily a commuter school, that the majority of the student body doesnt pay any attention to athletics and wouldnt even notice if they went away? what are your thoughts/observations on that?
