This was announced a few days ago and dandydon hit on it today. Reportedly, we will be opening the 2010 season against North Carolina in the Georgia Dome.

How do we feel about this?

I like it I guess. Not thrilled about losing a home game, but it's always fun when we play competitive OOC teams. I expect UNC to be very good in 2010--possibly on the same level as VT in '07. Butch Davis is a fantastic recruiter and will have that team stacked with talent.

I have mixed feeling on scheduling difficult OOC games--is the risk really worth it? The VT game in '07 went a long way to propelling us to the NC game, but is it really worth taking an OOC loss when the SEC is so tough year in and year out. Part of me thinks we are better off scheduling 5 roll over teams and saving ourselves for SEC play. Of course we saw the other side of the coin in '07. What say you?

the only reason we played for the MNC in 07 was because of playing Vagina Tech. but i think that is what the last sentence in your post was eluding too.

We sure have been recruiting that region harder than we ever did before. I guess we'll have a lot of exposure there by playing UNC. And that's entering into Miles' and Aleva's thoughts right now.

    How would this work?

We open at the Superdome currently, then go to Nashville.

That means the Tulane game would have to be moved, and likely to Tiger Stadium (Can't imagine LSU allowing 6 home games). Would Tulane be okay this?

I like it, it is good for exposure. We don't often pull kids from North Carolina, so maybe we can make some inroads there. I generally see a player or two a year out of Georgia sign with LSU. Georgia is a great state for talent.

As far as risk vs. reward, I don't really see how we can lose. If we can't beat UNC on a neutral field, regardless of who their coach is, we don't deserve to be in any BCS or SoS discussions, anyway.

I for one will be pumped if it does come to fruition. I understand that we need cupcakes on the schedule each year, but I'd always prefer to see us play a competitive game then a ULL, Tulane, etc. Just from a pure entertainment standpoint. There are other benefits as well, which were mentioned above - another example of how it can benefit you is how quickly Bama catapulted to a top rank school after dismanteling Clemson last year. We should have one decent out of conference game each year.

    pros:
    a non cupcake ooc game

a national tv game on a week where traditionally there aren't many good ones

    espn gameday in atl

more exposure in ga. recruiting wise.

more exposure in NC recruiting wise?? steve is right about us recruiting that area harder.

a chance to rep the SEC against another conf

    ROAD TRIP!!!

LSU would probably get a take of the gate in a format like this

    CONS:
we lose a home game and a home tailgate

possible upset.UNC could be a pretty bada$$ team by then plus butch davis scares me a little.

i don't like our recent showings against UNC in bball and baseball. (that was a stretch)

overall, in a one game format, i'm down. bring on the heels!!!

:hihi: How about a "more" competitive OCC game then a Tulane match-up?
