For the 3rd straight year, it appears the ULL Ragin Cajuns, my alma mater, is seemingly headed to another bowl game (still early at 4-2, but they are 2-0 in the conference and are scoring at a rate of nearly 40 points per game). The question is how long will it be til someone comes knocking from a major school to swoop Mark Hudspeth out of there? He obviously is very creative on the offensive side of the ball. He could be very successful at a school like a Wake Forest or Minnesota, especially if he gets the right DC to go with his high powered and fast paced offenses. The Ragin Cajuns have never had successful teams in back to back years that I can ever remember, and had never been to a bowl game for the past 41 years until he arrived, and now they have won 2 in back to back years. He is 22-10 at a school that is lucky if they go 10-22 over any 32 game stretch.
He wants a job in the SEC, but it has to be the right one. He'd love Miss St., but they will be on probation for the next coach.
If the Cajuns finish up strong this year, he will get some offers that he will have to seriously consider. The domino effect of the UT/USC jobs could eventually impact him. I think he's gone after this year, unless he feels strongly that next year's team will continue the success (isn't Broadway back next year?) and will lead to a better opportunity after 2014.
I don't see him getting an offer from an SEC school just yet. Missouri's situation has turned around so that Pinkel is safe (see DWI and poor record from last year). Kentucky and Vandy have had enough success lately that their head coaches are going to stick around for a couple of more years. MSU is probably still content with Mullen, even though they have never had a signature win in the SEC. But at least they are still winning enough to be bowl eligible. I see him getting play from the ACC, Big 10, Big 12 at some middling football program. Wake Forest, Minnesota, Iowa State (not suggesting they will have openings, just using them as an example).
Has to be a school that can beat about 1.5 million which is what he will most likely get starting next year. Granted, that is most schools, but not all are willing to go that high on a coach who hasn't head coached in the BCS.
Lsu doesn't hire usl anything except in softball. It'd be someone who took awhile but more proven at a major college like say jimbo fisher.
Correct, and the teams that I listed won't have people beating down their door to get those gigs. Much the opposite. That's where Hudspeth comes in.
Lets get this straight about Hud, he cannot and will not coach anywhere but the south. Although his redneck accent and "grab a hold of the rope" motto would be straight fire to see the expression on all those California Twinks out at USC.......he's a southern boy.
