My uncle had a soft spot for former racing dogs and adopted them pretty regularly. Those dogs were crazier than hell. He had one dog that any time you looked at it would take off running. Seriously if you made eye contact with the dog it took off. He had another one that pissed itself every time the phone rang.
When Vick's "boy" who rolled on him, write their book and cash in after prision... the tales and pictures they will paint of Vick (because that is what sells books) will make people sick. I will be surprised if the fans welcome him back. Maybe a desperate owner but not the fans. I think he is a piece of ****, but that is my opinon
Of course he is getting it worse than most athletes he killed dogs. People in this country are freaking crazy about their pets and dogs in particular. I see murder on TV every night and don't think twice, but it's still sad when they shoot Old Yeller. Tirk is 100% right and it's sad but you kill a person on accident and the general public might forgive you, kill/torture a dog and you're f**ked for life. Now every time people see Mike Vick they are going to think of him torturing and killing that dog that is curled up by their feet.
One thing I forgot about - aren't the feds prosecuting this? If so, there's no parole or sentence reductions in the federal system. Whatever sentence he gets, he'll serve day for day.
The key word delineating the two in my mind is accident. If you killed a person on purpose as Mike Vick did with his dogs, I'm quite sure that the public indignation would be far greater than the outrage over the purposeful killing of a dog. Intent is also the key in determining many legal issues.
goodell has more reasons to ban vick than gambling, although he doesnt need more. dont forget that this thing got started because one of his posse was caught with a bunch of dope with intent to distribute. vick could probably be banned for being associated with the guy. he's long gone. he's such a pr nightmare that goodell is just looking for a legal excuse, and there are several. im sad that it looks like this wont be going to trial. he'd look really bad, the african americans would have to layoff the victimhood and vick would lose all his $$$ on attorneys.
Ray Lewis got himself into a bit of a pickle and has more than survived, even has endorsements: http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0006/06/se.03.html
it was his cousin who got picked up for drugs, you can't pick blood... but there was a reporter for ESPN who said Falcon's sources told him that for a long time they (the Falcons) have been telling Vick that he needed to clean up the crew he was running with that is was going to get him in trouble and he wouldn't listen.
