There is a good chance Vick wont be able to return to the NFL. Goodall could easily ban him for life because of the gambling aspect of his case. At that point it wont matter what teams are interested since Bad Newz Roger will have already made the decision for them.

I dont pay much attention to pro players who get in trouble with the law, so pardon the Q if it's a duh one...

Have their been any other players who were brought up on criminal charges and suspended from the league? Was Kobe suspended until his case was settled-I'm thinking no, but I could be wrong.

what gambling aspects? He didn't bet on football so why should the commish care? In theory is betting on a dog fight any different than betting on a golf game?

Kobe wasn't suspended by the NBA.

I'm pretty sure dog fighting is on their banned gambling list.

Of course you would exclude Marcus Spears as well from that list.

MV needs a PR person, admit he was wrong to do what he did, say he is sorry, come out against dog fighting, do public service announcements, go on Oprah and cry, donate money to PETA and join the organization, say that he deserves whatever punishment he receives, go back on Oprah cry a little but not as much as the first time and announce the formatin of The MV former fighting dog foundation. After doing his time and the above, he will be back in the NFL.

Another breed of dog that gets the shaft is grey hounds. Don't believe they do well once their racing days are over. Saw a show about it once. According to the program, they make great pets.

Yea, some of the sports writers have talked about gambling being the big thing. I don't really get that, since it's well-established that many pro athletes absolutely love Vegas.

The gambling stuff is a slippery slope though, and the league is (rightfully) concerned about illicit gambling given the bad characters typically involved. Doesn't help that one of the key bad characters appears to be Vick.

It really depends. Kobe wasn't suspended, but he wasn't convicted either.

I don't think Ray Lewis was suspended as a result of the murder charges. Jamal Lewis was suspended (two games, I think) for his incarceration.

I think Leonard Little got 6 or 8 games for killing that woman with his rig.

This is the new NFL though. Tagliabue was pretty light in the discipline department, and Goodell wants a much tougher policy.

Vegas and "illegal" gambling are two different issues. The NFL forbids illegal gambling of which dog fighting is. I either heard or read that dog fighting is specifically mentioned in the labor agreement with the players union and included in all NFL contracts.

    Has Vick been officially convicted?
I'm curious because of what has been discussed on the other Vick thread- the severity of killing animals. It seems like he's getting it worse than others-in regards to not being allowed to play.
Same "non suckage" applies for Spears.
