The announcer pointed out that CJJ had taken off his jacket with LSU up by 11 under 2 minutes to go. At less than 30 secs and LSU by one the camera showed he had his jacket back on.
He Gone. Simmons Gone. 2016/2017 Season: No Hornsby + No Simmons + Jones Coaching = He'll have to do the only thing that he does well to even field a respectable team and that is recruit. Just recruit and hope to out talent teams because JJ aint winning no games on coaching and X's & O's. You could get many high school coaches to come in and coach this team better....................
The basketball team mirrors the football team in many respects in terms of the level of recruits JJ has landed, but the poor gameday coaching is frustrating. Still, I don't mind it as much in basketball given that's never what LSU will be known for and for me when we're good it's lagniappe and not a necessity. Football is another story entirely.
If I recall, Musselman was intended to be JJ's assistant to handle X's and O's but he left after last season. Not sure who took his place but maybe the scrutiny should be there rather than JJ? Let JJ continue to recruit but have a better assistant? With this year's team, I find myself thinking that the offensive flow is pretty good and we can lock down on D at times. There have been at least 5 times that I tell myself in the 2nd half during a close game (i.e. 12 minutes remaining) that "we're about to take over this game" because we seem to have the better team but we don't.
I recall hearing that also at the time, although I think (?) that CJJ (like most coaches) takes off his jacket while coaching during the game but puts it back on after the game is over (i.e. when time for interviews, etc). Therefore, maybe it was just his usual routine but the announcers made it seem as though it was affected by UGA's comeback?
Hypothetical time. Would all of these people be complaining as much had the team been at full strength the entire season? Victor has been huge! Hornsby and Patterson have had their moments as well. They are most likely nowhere near the bubble if everyone was healthy. Also, if there were any truth to thinking any high school coach could come in and do a better job why wouldn't they just hire one? It's silly and takes out the recruiting side which is easily just as, if not more, important than drawing up basketball plays. You think Jim Beheim wins a title without Mello? I doubt it.
I don't think there's any question that Jones' brand of basketball is more entertaining than Brady's or Trent's owing to a focus on transition. However, the team's focus and attention to detail is WTF bad sometimes. The substitution patterns and lack of ability to consistently execute in the halfcourt along with playing up/down to competition leave one scratching their head. If he continues to recruit at this level and make the NCAA tournament on a yearly basis, he'll keep his job forever. I'll be whining about it for a long time, I'm guessing.
I can't disagree with any of this. Honestly, if they make the tourney every year I'm good. Now if we could just get Les to do the same. I think our only hope is that JJ can find a really good X and O assistant at some point. I think he understands that he needs one.
