ESPN’s “Around the Horn”: UFC 100 did 1.5 million ppv buys, is Brock Lesnar good for the UFC?|URDirt.com

ESPN "Around the Horn" claiming that the buyrate was indeed 1.5 million buys. I can't find any sources for that though.

I don't think people are giving collegiate wrestlers the credit they deserve. Stephen Neal, who is now on the OL with the Patriots won a national title and beat Lesnar. The weight limit in college wrestling is 285 and their are some guys cutting weight to make it. Actually in high school there are guys cutting weight to make the limit, although they are not near as developed. Most of the toughest guys in MMA have a wrestling background, Hughes, Henderson, Couture, etc., and now Lesnar. There is no world class heavyweight wrestler that would cringe at the thought of wrestling Lesnar. In fact since Lesnar has been away from the sport so long, he would probably be an underdog.

The UFC has always had a "heel" at one time or another. I cannot remember the guys name (Carlos I think), but Matt Hughes beat him for the title back in the early 2000s...and this guy came down with supermodels and danced all the way down to the octagon (ala Ric Flair).

Tito Ortiz was another. When he beat his opponents...he would flip them off and/or motion like he was burying them in the ground.

Hell even Ken Shamrock (former WWF wreslter) had to play the heel a few times against Gracie.

Dana White can say all he wants to the press...but he is loving this. No such thing as bad press...Brock just sold a few more PPVs in my opinion.

You want another heel? Wait and see if Kimbo Slice makes it all the way through the next Ultimate Fighter...big if...but stranger things have happened.

Dana probably is loving it. He has to "disapprove" of it because he is trying to get networks like ESPN to recognize it as a legitimate sport. (Which I feel they already have).

Funny thing about Kimbo is that he's not even the favorite. One of the guys is 6'10", that's gonna be interesting.

amazing how big this is getting. still in its infancy stage, marketing wise, yet last year it outsold any boxing or WWE event for any year on ppv.

actually this is the 133rd event i believe but its the 100th since it became somewhat mainstream. i think ive seen all of them.

brock lesnar/frank mir--great rematch. lesnar was beating the shiit out of mir the first match yet got caught by an ankle hook in the first. i mean he was pounding mir much to the dismay of the crowd who wanted the fake wrestling dude to get exposed.

when in actuality, lesnar proved he is a beast and can overwhelm anyone. probably weighs in at 285 with his natural weight being closer to 350.

mir has elite ground skills and the same outcome may happen again. hes from vegas and will have the home crowd going nuts since theyre fighting in vegas --while lesnar will be booed out the place.

im still predicting lesnar will beat the phuck out of mir. the size difference is hard to describe strictly from a weight difference. the mass difference is incredible even though frank is about 250-255.

lesnar by knockout in the 2nd.

undercard:

georges st pierre/thiago alves--this could be interesting if they remain on their feet. unless he gets caught, georges will simply wear this dude down and overwhelm him on the ground.

st pierre wins by choke in the 2nd.

jon fitch/paulo thiago--fitch will end this one by stoppage within maybe 45 secs of the first. no match.

worse than above matchup is:

mark coleman/stephan bonnar--these two are still alive? bonnar was on season 1 of ult fighter and it seems like coleman was in ufc 1. his face was swiss cheese 10 years ago. hopefully its a decent payday since its likely their last. bonnar wins easily regardless I believe.

i dont remember who else was on the card or which fights will be shown but theres plenty to choose from.

this ppv may break all the previous single ppv records.

yeah brock lesnar, he is freak man! but very intense. i read his history of wrestling. he is in this profession since he was a child. man he looks mad o::insane:

411Mania.com is reporting that UFC 100 did 1.5 million pay-per-view buys.

That's the 6th largest pay-per-view event ever behind Floyd Mayweather and Oscar de La Hoya- 5/5/07, and 4 Mike Tyson fights.
