amazing how big this is getting. still in its infancy stage, marketing wise, yet last year it outsold any boxing or WWE event for any year on ppv. actually this is the 133rd event i believe but its the 100th since it became somewhat mainstream. i think ive seen all of them. brock lesnar/frank mir--great rematch. lesnar was beating the shiit out of mir the first match yet got caught by an ankle hook in the first. i mean he was pounding mir much to the dismay of the crowd who wanted the fake wrestling dude to get exposed. when in actuality, lesnar proved he is a beast and can overwhelm anyone. probably weighs in at 285 with his natural weight being closer to 350. mir has elite ground skills and the same outcome may happen again. hes from vegas and will have the home crowd going nuts since theyre fighting in vegas --while lesnar will be booed out the place. im still predicting lesnar will beat the phuck out of mir. the size difference is hard to describe strictly from a weight difference. the mass difference is incredible even though frank is about 250-255. lesnar by knockout in the 2nd. undercard: georges st pierre/thiago alves--this could be interesting if they remain on their feet. unless he gets caught, georges will simply wear this dude down and overwhelm him on the ground. st pierre wins by choke in the 2nd. jon fitch/paulo thiago--fitch will end this one by stoppage within maybe 45 secs of the first. no match. worse than above matchup is: mark coleman/stephan bonnar--these two are still alive? bonnar was on season 1 of ult fighter and it seems like coleman was in ufc 1. his face was swiss cheese 10 years ago. hopefully its a decent payday since its likely their last. bonnar wins easily regardless I believe. i dont remember who else was on the card or which fights will be shown but theres plenty to choose from. this ppv may break all the previous single ppv records.
The most recent estimates (this morning) are projecting a buyrate of about 1.2-1.3 million. That will be the biggest non-wrestling ppv ever. Bill Simmons and whoever he was interviewing did not know what the biggest wrestling ppv buyrate was. At least that is what i heard this morning.
cool. i really didnt know if it was projected to be huge but how can it not. 50 bucks a pop adds up with so many of these events however. im gonna predict the over 1.2 even though i have no idea what the norm is. oh, you said non-wrestling. i wonder what that record is for that. now ill have to check.
I thought big boxing matches routinely got over 1 Million buys on PPV? I'm really starting to like UFC, the fighters, the format, etc. Me and some buddies watched the last one at Hooters.
yeah that is what i was thinking. maybe it goes by revenue? then again, maybe not. many more people have access to ppv now. hell i may see you there. we often go there with so many tvs. unfortunately you have to get there at 6pm to get a damned table.
Lesnar v Mir: I hope Lesnar destroys Frank Mir...I like his chances. GSP v anyone: Doesn't matter. GSP is a freak of nature. He will win. Fitch v Thiago: I'm kinda looking forward to this fight for some reason. I think it will be a good one. I'm taking Fitch. Bisping v Henderson: I don't really like Bisping very much but I think he will probably win...easily. Coleman v Bonnar: Who cares.
i hope my neighbor buys lightbulbs. he orders all the ufc ppv events. just like the cubs for you and the clippers for me.
According to WWE, WrestleMania 23 in 2007 did 1.2 Million ppv buys. Several recent WrestleMania's have done 900K plus buys. WWE has 12 pay-per-views a year, with WrestleMania being the big one. The other events usually do 200,000 to 300,000 buys. I doubt UFC 100 goes over 1 million pay-per-view buys, but it will be big nonetheless. :crystal::geaux::crystal::geaux::crystal:
Lesnar v Mir: Lesnar will, once again, club the phuck out of Mir....but the outcome will be different from their first match b/c now Lesnar is a bit more seasoned. Brock Lesnar will be thrust into superstardom after this fight and I predict that SOMEHOW we will see a Fedor Emelianenko Vs. Brock Lesnar fight within the next year or two. GSP v Alves: GSP by submission in the 2nd. GSP is my favorite fighter. Fitch v Thiago: Fitch. Bisping v Henderson: Henderson's pretty much done. Bisping is still on the rise. Bisping is a good fighter and I predict that he wins. Coleman v Bonnar: I hate Bonnar. Absolutely hate Bonnar. Always have. I hope Coleman breaks Bonnar's arm.
