I don't follow their program but I'd bet there are a few players on their squad that could play in the SEC. There's a reason kids end up at schools in CUSA—qualifying, or the inability to, is one of the main reasons.
Interesting idea. LSU could use ULL and LA Tech as Triple A farm teams, McNeese and NLU as double A and Southeaster and Nichols as Single A. Move Jennings down and bring up another QB to the big leagues
I realize you're being facetious, but it is an interesting thought. I've thought that FBS/D1 has had far too many teams for a long time. I wonder if we took the schools from the Power Five conferences if we could find schools, relatively close to them, that could serve as farm systems. Sounds like something to waste some time with next summer.
There are football programs in Louisiana that should be axed or downsized, too. No university football program that cannot support itself financially should be playing in Division I. Taxpayers should not be funding about a half dozen small college programs in Louisiana. They should all be Division III. Grambling is on life support already.
Oh good Lord. There's only one program in the state that will always be able to support itself. It's probably only one or two in any given state save for Texas, Californio, and Florida. Say what you will for UL but I wonder what's going to happen to their fan support once their coach gets plucked...and it will happen soon. Hell my Alma Mater SU consistently leads the FCS in attendance (and has one of the best bands in the land...had to throw that in), and it's still very tough to survive.
Been living up here in Alabama since 1997. Over the years it has been painfully obvious that the University of Alabama was and will never allow UAB to field a competitive football team. UAB is governed by the board of trustees of Alabama and falls under the Chancellor of UA. There is no reason why they would want UAB to achieve success and potentially have a negative impact to the efforts of the athletic program in Tuscaloosa. UA has held a stranglehold on UAB for years. This has gone on for a long long time. UA loves the financial benefit of a medical powerhouse like UAB so there is no way they will let it go. There are also a number of rumors going around that Paul Bryant Jr has maintained a vendetta against UAB for a long time and has been working to dismantle the program (http://www.al.com/sports/index.ssf/2014/12/uab_booster_believes_killing_f.html). It is a shame that a few jerks can have such an impact on so many good people. This decision has hurt UAB, impacted it's student body and completely screwed those athletes that came here for the opportunity to play their sport. The financial justification used to terminate the program is baloney. The reason this program can't generate the revenue needed is simply because UA was never going to allow them to have that kind of success. It's easy for many to brush this off but the fact remains that UA screwed UAB and doesn't give a rat's ass about the people they hurt in the process. This whole thing stinks to high heaven. Just another reason to dislike UA. UAB has been trying to separate from UA and stand on their own. This is one of the top medical institutions in the country and could well support itself if UA would remove their very large crimson foot off UAB's throat.
Your not the first to suggest this. When questioned, others that have espoused the same theory haven't had an answer. So, since you're going to put that out here I'll ask the same question. How could a football program at UAB "have a negative impact to the efforts of the athletic program in Tuscaloosa?"
