Murphy takes the Wild Tiger snaps for us now. Do you really believe he's a better runner than Murphy? For that matter, is he really THAT much better than JJ...to the point where he can add a "change of pace"?

He needs to redshirt and develop as a passer and a QB, and that would also allow for one more year of PT for him after JJ leaves. We don't NEED him for any other reason right now. JJ is a MUCH better passer. Murphy, Scott, Williams, Ridley don't need any help. LaFell, Tolliver, Mitchell have the WR spots sewn up.

Where would the team benefit with him? Who would you take off the field?

    They've all been wrong before.

J-Lee was an Elite 11 QB.

Added: Hester was a 2-star recruit.

    J-Lee?

Oh you mean the guy who you went to bat for several times here at TF?

Elite 11 QB isnt equal to the being rated #1, 2#, or 3# depending which publication you read.

Shep is has all the tools and his work ethic will make up for his shortcomings. He will be used next year, see Tebow in 2006.

I went to bat for Lee for the coaches' sake. I had my doubts, but if the coaches believed in him, then so was I. He was performing at about the level I expected, but I would NEVER have called for him over Perrilloux, which is kinda what some people are doing with Shep / JJ. JJ has about the same experience as Flynn/Perrilloux had going into their starting years and honestly looks exactly like Perrilloux did at this time last year. He's the guy. Shep would benefit more from a RS than we would from him playing...unless JJ absolutely implodes like J-Lee did.

Tebow played so much in 2006 because Leak was finished. Tebow needed the snaps and that's the only reason he played.

Irony? The coaches believe in Shepard as well. He hasnt taken a collegiate snap, but Lee took plenty and you still went to bat for him:huh:

I'll get a shovel for you on your next response.

My only concern about Sheppard is his size. If you saw one of the practice day programs from the UA game (dont remember which day) there is a shot of him standing with Andre Debose and Chris Carter. Carter was towering over both of them and if Shep is taller than Debose its not by much. There is also a picture on the ESPN site of him and a running back running a play. The running back is supposed to be 6 foot tall and he looks bigger than Shep. If Shep is 6'2" Im the jolly green giant.

The kid has unbelievable moves and quickness which will limit his hits but he really needs to add some bulk. I would be shocked if he surpasses JJ at QB. He will be a specialty player next year but should work into a Harvin type player for us in the future. I dont think his long range spot is QB.

I think it will be hard to get him to take a redshirt year. I have seen him refer to himself as the #1 recruit in the nation and he has been quoted as saying how he sees himself competing for the starting QB job next season. He expects to have an immediate impact. Remember it is still his choice to redshirt even if the coaches suggest it.
His effectiveness in the Wildcat formation will be based largely on how his passing develops. People forget that the only reason Tebow was so good in that formation when 90% of the time he was going to run, is that he is a bull. There weren't big holes most of the time in his freshman year, he just moved the pile. I don't think Perrilloux was that successful with it against SEC competion once everyone caught on that when he entered the game it was a run. Sheppard will not be breaking many tackles. He needs to operate in space and that is the big difference.

It will take about 30 seconds to coach that out of him.

I think you were expecting too much out of him. It's an all-star game with limited practices and he's up against a defense entirely comprised of blue chippers. Also, when they chose sides the Black team got screwed on O-Line and Defense.

I know people love Shep because he brings us heartwarming, two-paragraph stories on Rivals...but does he really bring a lot more than Jefferson?

I think we'll see him come in like Tebow and did and JJ will play most of the games.
