I guess McCarron running out of bounds after losing yards on 4th down proves he's ready for the bigtime too...

I saw people bringing up how he was the MVP of the Miss-Ala. all-star game. From what I saw I don't know if that says a lot about him, or about the talent pool in those two states...

Loston Ready to Play, Jury out on Shep

Loston looks like the next Landry.

Sheppard completed only 2/6 passes (got lucky on the long TD, IMO) and a propensity to dangle the ball out in space for anyone to swat, but showed pretty good wheels and a nice quick release. He won't supplant JJ unless he really develops in the spring and JJ stands still. Furthermore, unless he learns how to take better care of the ball, he won't be carrying it over a Richard Murphy or a KW in a scat-back role either. My prediction: he'll redshirt because he needs more development and we don't need him in the lineup right now.

We would be crazy not to use RS next year, you use one game (an All-Star game at that) to pass judgement. Let the guy get in the system and compete he has things to learn but thats why hes enrolling this spring.

His passing was much better in his ESPN televised High School game.

    eggs-actly on both counts.

I agree we need to get him involved early. Similar to the Tebow situation his first year, wildcat formations, options, QB runs, etc. Sneak in the fake run then drop back pass stuff.
Spell JJ and change things up. I would be dissapointed if we didnt get him involved next year. he needs to put on some pounds.

    You got it.

Also, Downs is big time. As good as Davenport if not better. Arguably the best DT in the nation.

He did look little didn't he? I thought he was taller than his is as well. I agree with getting him involved early as well, especially against the cupcakes.

Re: Loston Ready to Play, Jury out on Shep

It's more about his actual mechanics and tendencies than his numbers. His incompletions were all off the mark...either overthrown or underthrown. The way he carries the ball is SCARY, and it bit him in the butt when he gave a fumble-recovery TD to the other team. He could have just as easily fumbled his rushing TD out of the endzone if a defender had the presence of mind to slap the ball out of his hands, although the run ITSELF was pretty good.

No, his O-Line didn't particularly play well, but the other two QBs rotating with him (playing with the same O-Line) had few problems making nice strikes. That one heading to Texas was particularly impressive to me.

I'm sorry, but I just didn't see a number one prospect last night.
