Here's my question: If we keep the guys responsible for this abysmal performance on the offensive side of the ball, and we get more of the same results ("The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results”), who's to blame for that? And what do we do about it after next season brings the same results?
What do you do if they fix the problems and get better results? Who's to blame? The key is that Miles sees that there is a problem and is actively working on getting it fixed. I'd be much more concerned if he were doing nothing and saying that no problem exists. I'm sure Miles, Crowton and Stud realize that something has to change quickly if they want to stay at their current job. The problems we had on offense this year and last are inexcusable, no question about it. Miles fixed the problems on D, let's see what his changes do for the O.
If the problem is fixed, then we don't have a problem and all is great. Give credit to whoever did whatever to fix it. How'd CLM fix the defense? Made some serious staff changes? Since it improved the D, is there any reason to imagine it won't work the same way on the O?
You're post answers your own question. How did Miles fix the D? He made the changes he thought were necessary, right? He is now making changes on the O, but he obviously feels that fewer changes are needed. If he is wrong he knows it may cost him his job. Believe me he has a lot more riding on this than we do. It's not every day you get a job making the kind of money he does doing something you love. I'm in favor of Crowton and Stud being shown the door, however Miles probably knows a little more (ok a lot more) about the situation than we do. He is making the changes that he thinks are needed and he is betting his job on it. If he feels that Crowton and Stud with some new blood and the grim (job) reaper knocking can get the job done than I'll wait and see before I jump off the cliff.
It's a huge gamble with his future at LSU. If it doesn't work out, he's not going to have too many safe rocks to hide under. Then he may have too give them the boot to try to save his own job and it will be too little too late. We'll have to wait and see but I think keeping them on to be a nice guy is hurting our team and will end up at some point being his downfall.
I don't think he's keeping anybody to be a nice guy. His future depends on smart hiring of assistants and every coach knows how that works. Crowton and Studrawa are both top college assistants despite the offense problems this year. We can finish in the top 10, which ain't a bad year of football. If we can't get anybody better, best to go with what we've got.
Someone posted a while back that the meercat offense took too long for the snap to happen...and the OL had to hold their stance too long and couldn't fire off on the ball. Looked like when they scrapped that stuff, the OL improved to me. But what is zone blocking and how does it differ from man on man? I honestly have no clue whether to blame Stud or not. I tend to agree with LSUfanzone and Tigerbacker70 though.
