Gonzalez in, Tolbert out as LSU wide receivers coach Bills notebook: Tolbert staying put; McGee ready to start : Sports : The Buffalo News But we already know what really happened.
Thanks for clarifying, b/c I was thinking he might be the OC in waiting, with possibly a very short wait period My thought was that he may also trying to branch out his mentoring a bit, too, sort of thinking ahead at his preparation for someday being OC and even HC. If he is always under CUM, then he is learning only one system. So, that may be part of the move for him. And, maybe he just realizes that coaching in Tiger Stadium >>> sad ass Ben Stiller Griffen Stadium or whatever the hell its name is
I don't think Miles put any stipulation that he would be next in waiting for the OC job but I am sure one reason he took the LSU job is because he thinks he has a greater chance of getting promoted to OC in the future if a need arises.
in other words, he's confident as hell he can get the talent we have to perform? i would take that!
Bhelm, what's your instinct about CGC? Does he stay? If he stays, do you think he had input into the decisions for offensive hires, both the ones that have seemingly worked out and have not (i.e. Gonzalez and Tyke)?
I am really not sure and am leaning to him staying but it could be a very well kept secret since we are not hearing about possible replacements much, etc... I do know if would be very hard for Les to attract a great OC hire because he is basically saying you can come but you have authority to make any of your own hires. Maybe he already knows who it is and collaborated with him on the hires but I doubt it.
If the article in the Advocate today is correct it points strongly towards both Crowton and Stud staying. 2theadvocate.com | Sports | Gonzales added to LSU staff — Baton Rouge, LA
so maybe miles is trying to get assistants that already have a camaraderie? maybe he understand that he needs to let the assistants do whatever it is they need to do to be successful. that seems to go against what we all heard early on about crowton not having any input. regardless, i don't think stud needs to stay. just because he knows how to run an offense doesn't mean he knows how to coach an offensive line. imo.
well, i guess when your #107th in offense, the only place you can go is up? hiring a new RB coach, and a new WR/passing game coordinator will not result in a dramatic improvement, imho. they NEED a complete overhaul! CGC should not remain. if he does, we can all expect a continued lack of offensive identity, continued approach of putting a square in a hole and not playing to our strengths or utilizing a gameplan that fits our personnel, all resulting in a continued inept offense. i am usually not a bleak person, but i am not looking forward to another year of a crowton guided offense. its offensive and will likely stall this team another year or more, i predict.
From what I have seen the last two seasons I agree and have said it repeatedly that Stud should go. However it appears that is not going to happen. Much of LSU's blocking problems started with the change to zone blocking which Stud supposedly didn't agree with. With Miles coming from an OL back ground I would hope they could get together, identify the problem/problems and get them fixed in a hurry. I think Miles is feeling the heat and realizes that some things have to be done different and that his teams should be playing better given the amount of talent on them. He did a pretty good job on the defensive side last off season, let's hope he has the same success on the offensive side this off season.
