I dont understand why they wouldnt want to. I would promote a more college like atmosphere...it would increase the number of tailgaters and I think fans going to the game. AND it would motivate the players i think to play better. I mean how hard it must be to get up and excited for a game when the place your playing in is empty and there is little noise. It just seems to make more sense for them
Tad Gormley is already occupied, UNO's club team (on their path to being a real d-1 team in the next decade) plays there. home opener is the 19th against UT-Arlington.
I really wish they would take the Tulane banners down in the Dome. The only one that is worth anything dates back 75 years ago. I don't think they highlight Tulane's successes as much as they demonstrate that Tulane really doesn't have much of a football history or tradition. If they're going to maintain a football program, they should consider a much smaller stadium or dropping to a lower division.
i asked greenie about this tonight. damn near got my head taken off! seems greenies arent very high on gormley stadium.
Its because its used as a high school stadium and I guess that they would see it as a embarressment to play there...maybe they should talk to Miss St people and see that its not so bad.
I agree tearing down Tulane stadium was a mistake. I have heard that they are actually looking for additional land to try and build a stadium. The problem with this is that there is really no where for them to go. Students to go an tailgate at the dome but it is not the same as if on campus.
I believe Tulane uses the old stadium site as its practice field, but they've built their athletic office complex on the site as well, and with other developments over the decades, there's no longer room to even build a small stadium on the property. I've said for years that Tulane should use Gormley...so what if high schools use it? They use the 'Dome once a year as well. They can pack Gormley every weekend, and the park makes an ideal site for tailgating. And they know well in advance if an upcoming opponent, like LSU or Texas, who visited a few years ago, would create too large a ticket demand, and can move such games to the Dome. I know its been argued that the Dome is a great recruiting tool for TU, but IMO, its not that great to bring in a recruit on Saturday night and show him 25-30,000 empty seats.
