Trying to understand the Las Vegas odds.

    that would matter if they set the line according to whom they thought would win.

    it changes like a stock price to keep the money even. doesnt always work out that way but thats the intent. usually.

    yep.


    there are exceptions though. impossible to balance all the games and when they arent you can usually guess who wins.

    OK, so based on what you guys are saying, then it is actually possible, unlikely I know, but possible for the Vegas picked winner to change. Say they're giving LSU 1 point and everybody starts picking LSU, the only thing that would balance the lines would be to transfer to giving florida 1 point. Correct???

    That is correct. For example Auburn opened up as a 3.5 point favorite over us. Vegas knew people would put money on LSU so that is why it opened so high. By Friday LSU was a 1.5 point favorite. Those numbers probably arent exact but that is how it can work.

    would go to a pick 'em first but happens a good bit.

    Green Bay opened as a 1 point favorite over Seattle and now are 2 pt dogs.

    home dogs are often a smart play even if the team sucks.
