I am really scratching my head at this and I just cant figure it out. Some people are saying that Crowton is hampered by a bad running game....BUT we have the same running backs as last year and before this season people were talking about Scott having a career game. So is it the O-line that the same running backs from last year can not get anything going...BUT Les Miles says this is the BEST O-line he has had since being here. SO is that Miles speak at its best or does he really feel that way. And then there is this... Last season our Offense was hampered by a young QB that got thrown into the fire...BUT eventhough he made ALOT of mistakes the offense was still able to put up some damn good numbers. SO this year the thing that hampered us is replaced...BUT all of sudden we have gone away from the offensive scheme we ran last year and have brought in this playing from the sideline scheme. I have tried to look at this from every single angle and all I get is a damn headache. Is it Jefferson? Is it the O-line? Is it Miles hampering Crowton? Is it Crowton being over geniusly? Maybe the problem is that we are all trying to find that 1 thing wrong..cause if its 1 thing thats easy to fix. If it is Jefferson..easy...put in Lee! If its the O-line...easy...run more screens and quick slants! If its Miles...easy...Let Crowton do his job! If its Crowton...easy...Miles steps in and takes some control!.... BUT what if its not just 1 what if its alittle of all??????? And I had no REAL expections of LSU beating Florida, in fact my theory at the begining of the season was we lose to Florida at Home, Beat them in the SECC and then with both of us with 1 lose and every other team with 2 have a Rubber Match in the National Championship. SO the lose is not a big deal...its the way it happened and the play calling that lead to it!
Lack of a passing threat allows our opponents to take our running game away and simply let us fail to execute the passes. That's the book on LSU right now. Stop Scott and dare Jefferson to throw. We have speedy and dangerous receivers and they are still daring him to throw. Les has two weeks to fix this. LSU must establish a passing offense. Either Jefferson starts hitting his valuable receivers or Les must find someone who can.
We should run the option a few more times since it has been so effective. :dis: The offensive line is weak. If a play works well, we'll be sure to not run it again. We'll keep Holliday in on passing downs even though we'll rarely throw to him and when we do, our chances for a positive yard completion (if he catches it at all) are slim. We run four and five receiver sets although JJ will stare down just ONE WR the entire route. We leave RS on the bench and play TH the entire game. We have 2nd & goal at the three and run an obvious play for no gain then settle for a FG. :dis: Did we think we could win on FGs? Plain and simple...whether it's coaching, the line, the QB, or a combination, this offense really stinks! There is far too much talent on this team to play this poorly.
This is why I don't worry about it. What's the point of me or you trying to figure out how to fix the LSU team? That's what we have our coaches for... and if they don't deliver on expectations, we will get new coaches.
I think we need to stretch the field a little more, but I think that there might be some concern about JJ getting trown in to the fire and losing confidence
And, actually, the quote was "potential to be the best". People quoted him and left of the "potential", which changes his whole perspective on the Oline, IMO. It's frustrating to see it brought up so often.
An honest question...what's been an effective play that's not been used more than twice? A few weeks ago, I remember several posters on this board and others saying we should try the option more. Now it seems as though everyone's bitching about how we can't run the option and keep doing it...not necessarily the same posters BTW, but it's a pattern I noticed. I'm incredibly frustrated with this O right now. Much more so than in 06 with Jimbo, so that's saying something.
