1st true test????:insane::insane::insane: Look at last years tough schedule and with a new starter at QB. Injuries to key players, suspensions of key players, playing Saban at Bama and the Michigan rumors near the end of the season. That was quite a test and he has an SEC championship and a BCS championship trophy to show as his report card. When you coach in the SEC every year is a test and with no less than 11 wins in every season so far Les has aced them all. If you think this is his first true test you haven't been paying attention, following a legend is a test that many more coaches have failed than have passed. Not just following but actually improving and doing better than the legend you follow is almost unheard of. This season will definitely be a challenge, but his first real test.....please.

    On Miles being "insane"
I'm not sure where this comes from. I think maybe people don't know what that means

"insanity is the behavior whereby a person flouts societal norms and becomes a danger to himself and others"

What has he done that would lead you to believe that? It's not like he's coaching in his underwear and pointing a loaded shotgun at his players.

On proving himself as a coach
Miles proved he could coach after his first year. Period. If you think you think anyone can come in and coach a team to an 11 win season in the SEC (I don't care if they are the best athletes to ever play football) then you are a moron. You might as well stop reading this now and go eat paste or something more inline with your intelligence level.

Season two and last years MNC only go to solidify what he has already demonstrated in year one. Some people will always find a reason to say, "this is the year Les will have to prove...bla bla bla" People have been saying that every year. Btw...if that is you please refer to the paste comment.

    On Miles as a recruiter
My above statements were not intended to diminish the importance of recruiting. Miles has brought in top classes each year he's been with the program: #4, #7, and #11. He is also on track to bring in one of, if not the best, class LSU has ever had this year. So I don't see where anyone can knock him here either.

You guys are way too serious, and you're absolutely taking my statements the wrong way.

I mean, why are you so defensive???

YES, I use the word insane, but not with the same meaning behind it as you seem to be able to dig up in a dictionary. Do you complain when someone uses the word "sick" when describing someone's talents? Do I need to dig up a definition of the word "sick" and call everyone out on that?

Okay, so I'm new and you guys don't know me or my proclivities yet, but I can tell you I absolutely BLEED purple and gold and sometimes even white!

Even thinking back on my posts, I've not ONCE questioned Miles abilities. I HAVE questioned the CB's abilities (Jai Eugene almost single-handedly lost the KY game for us last year) and the QB's abilities (Hatch has yet to impress anybody). I hope you guys aren't underestimating the importance of these positions. If anybody has watched the Saints in the last two years, you know that bad corners ALONE will lose games for you.

My question and the point of this thread is simply, "Just how good is Coach Miles?" I understand and fully expect that we will win and win a lot. But can we win against the likes of Florida and Georgia...Auburn at Auburn (something we haven't been able to do for a decade) and then beat Florida or Georgia AGAIN in the SECCG with the great abyss of seasoned talent? Is Miles good enough to make a repeat national championship team without proven players at key positions?

Guys, understand...I love Miles and wouldn't trade him for any coach in the country on any level. I was there in the crowd marching for him to stay at Walk-On's last year. I've braved the August heat just to see him in person, and will again this year.

I agree with you... not sure why everybody is getting so excited over this. Everybody is way too oversensitive about Miles being criticized.

One issue with message boards is that rivals occasionally pretend to be fans of your team in order to stir the $h*t. I imagine people have not quite accepted you as a Tiger fan. Don't worry, they will soon enough.

We'll see. I say he is good enough, but we may not get lucky enough to do it this year.

I'll tell you why. Because the big elephant in the room, which no one mentioned but I think is at the root of your inquiries, is the dreaded: "Miles is not playing with Saban's players any more". Yeah, we're a little defensive about that.

I can appreciate that, and that's me all the way. I'm looking forward to watching him win with HIS recruits (although they were always HIS players, no matter who recruited them). Perhaps I should have established myself a bit before coming out with something so volatile.

Anyway, the bottom line is that if Les can get it done and at least get us to the SEC championship game with the lack of talent (by SEC elite standards) at CB and QB, he will not only have established himself as the greatest coach in LSU history...he's already done that...but as one of the greatest coaches in the country, bar none.

I apologize if I caught any of you guys off guard.

And if anyone has a question about my fandom, pop in on cbssportsline.com and look me up...same handle. You'll see where my loyalties lie.

The only thing I can think is you've planned this "attack" on "tiger"forums for awhile now.

I can't imagine a true fan making the above statement.

No one questioned Charlie Weis when he won with the past coaches players. No one questioned Urban Myer when he won with Zook's players. There's tons of examples of 1st year coaches winning, and heck there's a ton of evidence of 2nd year coaches that win NC's. All those coaches won with the past coaches players in key positions.

Why is it only CLM is questioned about this issue?

As soon as a new coach comes in, the players that stay are HIS. Heck, I think CLM is even in less question than CUM because he won in his 3rd year with many of HIS recruits starting.

Yes, Saban left LSU off in a good position (in some spots and bad off in others), but to make SUCH an idiotic statement as "I want to see CLM win with HIS recruits". . .I have to ask:

How does who recruited a player in ANY WAY effect how that player plays on the field? In short answer, it doesn't. Those recruits signed to LSU NOT to Saban. Nowhere did it say "I sign my letter of intent to play for Nick Saban".

It has nothing to do with you being new. it has to do with you saying something that isn't true. It wouldn't have mattered who you were. If you had said the above, you'd have gotten the same response. Mainly - :insane: :angryfire :dis:

Obviously you have a little trouble paying attention...

I did NOT say: "I want to see CLM win with HIS recruits". I said: "I'm looking forward to watching him win with HIS recruits" There's a big difference there...try saying it out loud to yourself and maybe it'll come to you. :rolleye33:

I stated: I'm looking forward to watching him win with HIS recruits (meaning 100% Les Miles and staff recruited...this is the first year of that, like it or not), and that they were always HIS players, no matter who recruited them (meaning that for the last three years, he brought players up from recruitment infancy and trained them within his system...or in other words, "developed" them).

I fail to see how any of the above is inaccurate. Maybe you need to relax a little and stop twisting it all around in your head. Just take it at face value.

I don't like having words put in my mouth and I REALLY don't like having my fandom questioned.

Thanks, and have a GREAT day. :po:
