Dude - I like your handle, first off. I also like where your heart's at. But I need to say that I think Miles IS a little daft. It shoule also be known that I like that aspect of him more than any other, I think. He's a game-changing coach. He's exciting to watch. All of his risks are well calculated, but they are still BIG RISKS, and I love watching it unfold. He's obviously the best thing to happen to LSU football in recent history, so I am not a Les Miles hater...make no mistake. I was defending him after the Monday Night Football game against Tennessee three years ago when it seemed everyone else was calling for his coach's whistle, and I have since. He has seen more than his share of hardships...true. Maybe my assessment of this being his first TRUE test was ill-conceived. But be that as it may, he's never had to fill so many truly key holes before. Offense is just a matter of finding which QB will get it done...the rest is fine. Defense is a different matter...LB, CB, and DC are all almost completely unproven (thank God we still have Beckwith and a great line). If they don't deliver like their counterparts from last year, difficult adjustments will have to be made...ESPECIALLY if a QB doesn't emerge and the offense finds itself sputtering a bit. I'm sorry to come off so negative, because that's not my intention. I have no doubt Miles is a great coach, and I see this season as a good opportunity to let the negators go sit on it after he wins...with HIS recruits, no less...while trying to fill so many BIG shoes. It's a good chance for him to make an even greater statement and grow the legend.
My god he has already filled big shoes: Russell Landry Bowe Davis Lost 4 first round picks and wins a Natioanl Champ with an unproven QB. Not too shabby.
Not shabby at all! But you're only talking about two positions there, and everyone already knew Flynn and Doucet were both the real deal in waiting. Now, we're talking about three key positions that nobody has seen anything too special from in the way of backups last year. For instance, I would have mentioned safety in the above posts, but Coleman and Jones gave me something to believe in. I haven't seen anything out of this years CBs, LBs (except Beckwith), or QBs to really make me jump up and down. That's all I'm saying.
Tigers are the same all over. :thumb: I just don't seee how these two statements do not conflict with each other. And I disagree wholeheartedly that he is "daft". Again, this is what I believe a rival fan or the media would like everyone to believe, and he is far from it. I think I get what you are trying to say, but you just keep going a bit overboard in your characterizations for me. We were in the same boat last year. Flynn started for the first time and in a new offense. I think CB may be our biggest area of concern because they will be tested frequently and have little chance of recovery in the event of a busted play. I don't agree with LB, as I think we actually upgrade in at least one LB position and have a push in the other. Our DL will also be adequate at keeping lineman off our LB crew, so I don't see any issue there. As to DC, we are running the same defense that has been taught to these guys for years. I see no change there except semantics. We will see if these guys can plan a defensive game without Bo as soon as we play Auburn. I'm just not worried about it. We had several players that didn't or couldn't deliver last year. We rarely missed a beat and this year will be no different. Conversely, don't assume I am a sunshine pumper. I just happen to think we are a bit better off than you do. Six of one, 1/2 a dozen of another. Absolutely agree with this. :thumb:
Got an example? So what's your problem with it? We've had conservative coaches here that didn't win chit. Now we have an audacious coach and we're winning like never before. Look, LSU was 83% on 4th-down conversions last season, #1 in the nation. Of course Les went for it when you have an offense like that! It's called smart coaching. If you don't take risks, you can't win championships, it's just that simple. Les is taking smart risks and he's winning with it. Now, here's where you say that Les is just lucky. Yeah, we heard this last summer, too. Surely LSU would sputter without Russell. Well, you surely do talk like a Barner poser . . . we get them from time to time.
You can compare football seasons to playing poker. You never have the same hand, and you can only play with the cards dealt to you. Coach Miles has a Damn Strong Poker Face. :geauxtige:geauxtige :geauxtige:geauxtige
LOL, ya know...everyone's taking me too literrally. In terms of college football coaches, he IS a little wild, crazy, daft, insane (any number of words that all mean the same thing in casual conversation...if not neccessarily the dictionary) and THAT'S WHAT I LIKE ABOUT HIM! Apparently, it's what all of you like about him as well! My wife and I do this all the time...go round and round saying the same things in different ways. LMAO! And I never for a second thought the offense would sputter without Russell last year...I've already said that I expected Flynn and Doucet to step up because we had already SEEN what they can do. And if I remember right, we didn't do quite as well on average offensively as we did under Russell, now that you bring it up. When did this become a debate? I just wanted some opinions on how Miles will manage the game and the season if the talent doesn't step up like we all hope it does. Lighten up!
